THE FACTORY IS ONLY THE BEGINNING
When we talk about industrialisation, we often picture the factory floor.
But the real industrial economy stretches from A to Z.
Raw materials must be produced and collected.
They need aggregation, storage and logistics.
Factories need machinery, maintenance, energy, water, packaging and technology.
Products need quality assurance, branding, marketing, warehousing, distribution and retail.
Behind all of this are people.
Managers making decisions.
Engineers solving problems.
Technicians keeping machines running.
Researchers improving products.
Workers operating production lines.
Drivers moving materials.
Accountants managing finances.
Designers building brands.
Entrepreneurs supplying the chain.
Industrialisation means building the capabilities to perform all these functions locally.
That is how Kenya moves from being primarily a market for finished goods to becoming a country that designs, makes, supplies and exports.
