MONOCHROMA returns for its second edition in ABU DHABI.

The first edition of MONOCHROMA brought together ceramic artists who approached the restricted language of black and white through remarkably different material and conceptual worlds.

Parul Parasramka transformed clay into a visual language of memory, identity and social roles. Kamal AlZubi explored the fragile territory between resilience and collapse, while Madar Alsuwaidi worked intuitively through hand-built forms, allowing shape, texture and gesture to evolve organically. Dana Kamal turned to the natural world through monochrome porcelain sculpture, while Hélène Olive brought together ceramic totems, photography and the memory of shells collected during a journey across the world.

Elsewhere, Marie-France Scott explored the tension between geometry and organic form; Shamsa Juma drew from the human figure and the expressive possibilities of clay; Nilza Ying worked with gradations between black and grey; Anila Ashraf used porcelain, fracture and glaze to speak about disruption and endurance; Nessma Djouhri explored fragmented narratives and imagined worlds; and Toma Gabor moved between ceramic, sculpture, installation and architecture, examining memory, transformation and human behaviour.
Together, these works revealed what happens when colour is reduced to its most elemental opposition: difference begins to emerge through form, surface, texture, material and meaning.

Following the first edition presented at Double J Collective in Dubai, MONOCHROMA returns for its second edition in Abu Dhabi, presented by Double J Collective in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

This new presentation brings the exhibition to Manarat Al Saadiyat, where diverse ceramic practices come together in a dialogue shaped by material, perspective and artistic expression.

Three years of Double J Collective: Building the Conditions for Craft.

Three years ago, Double J Collective Gallery entered Dubai’s cultural landscape with a proposition that was still relatively unfamiliar: that fine craft could occupy the same contemporary cultural space as art and design.

Three years ago, Double J Collective Gallery entered Dubai’s cultural landscape with a proposition that was still relatively unfamiliar: that fine craft could occupy the same contemporary cultural space as art and design.

Three years on, the question is no longer simply what we have presented, but what we have learned about creating the conditions for fine craft to be understood, sustained, and carried forward.

In Building the Conditions for Craft, featured in The Art Bridge Magazine, founders Jonathan Silva and Jorge Pinto, alongside curator Marita Setas Ferro, reflect on the thinking that has shaped the Gallery so far.

Commitment remains at the center of what comes next.

Double J Collective is pleased to announce that gallery artist Marita Setas Ferro will present a solo exhibition at the Visions Museum of Textile Art, San Diego — on view 27 June to 10 October 2026.

Presented in the museum’s Spotlight Gallery, the exhibition brings together sculptural textile works inspired by marine ecosystems, coral formations, and anemones. Through reclaimed fibres and intricate handcraft processes, Marita explores the relationship between material, ecology, and environmental stewardship.

The exhibition follows her participation in Personal Structures, organised by the European Cultural Centre in Venice — continuing a body of research that has shaped much of her recent practice.

A proud milestone for our programme, and for an artist whose work continues to expand what fine craft can hold.

One of the strongest moments from opening night was watching visitors spend time with the works before attempting to wear them.

There was hesitation. Curiosity. Attention to weight, surface, and construction.

That transition — from viewing an object to negotiating it physically — sits at the centre of RE_FLEKT and Double J Collective’s ongoing engagement with wearable art as a lived and embodied practice.

“A piece is rarely complete when it is merely observed.”

Throughout opening night, visitors moved constantly between looking at the works and physically trying them on. Rings shifted hands. Structures changed position. Objects that initially appeared rigid became unexpectedly personal once worn.
For Armin, this transformation is central to the work itself. The body is not secondary to the object. It completes it.

Luminescent Corals

Light in the deep.
Darkness interrupted by colour.

Luminescent Corals draws from the ocean’s
furthest depths — where corals glow against
darkness, points of light in an otherwise
unseen world.

Constructed through layered knitting and
crochet, the work reinterprets marine
formations through textile — wool, acrylic,
polyester, and metallic elements building
a form that is at once familiar and
completely unexpected.

These techniques are deeply traditional.
Yet the way they are applied creates
an immediate confrontation — between
the known and the new, between touch
and vision, between tradition and
the innovation of form.

Part of The Echoes of Things from Nature,
an ongoing investigation into material,
ecology, and transformation — begun in 2016.

polyamide yarns, recycled polyester padding,
metallic upcycling rings and LED lights
