A journey that began in 2022, when Nawar simply asked me, “You write, don’t you?”

Four years later, that question has grown into a journey that continues to inspire me through the remarkable people I’ve met along the way. From the Himalayan Writers Workshop led by Eric Weiner and James C Hopkins also Sonam Tobgay for being the best guide to this beautiful country and all the amazing people I met, to the collaborators on the book who have become part of this story: illustrator Leki Wangdi, a student at Choki Traditional Art School graphic designer Hind Al Shaali a graduate of American University of Sharjah (AUS); and the incredible team at Tashkeel so much love for all of you.

These are just a few fragments of the memories gathered along the way. Hopefully, the final destination is now close, as the book prepares to make its way into the upcoming book fairs across the UAE. A special thank you وزارة الثقافة - الإمارات for their support for this project. See you all very soon!

A fun historical detail: the legendary Waq Waq Islands were even included on the 13th-century maps of al-Idrisi, blurring the line between mythology, exploration, and cartography.
