In 2024, Syria was liberated from the Assad regime, marking the dawn of a new era of freedom and hope. Before this monumental event, drones were forbidden to soar in Syrian skies, leaving us unable to witness the breathtaking beauty of our cities from above. But with liberation came the ability to see Damascus in all its glory, a perspective that symbolizes the boundless possibilities of a free and united nation.
To celebrate this pivotal moment in our history, I chose to paint Damascus from above—a tribute to the resilience of our people and the boundless potential of freedom and humanity. This artworks is more than a depiction of our city; it’s a call to reimagine and rebuild Damascus with compassion, innovation, and a renewed sense of purpose.
For this piece, I used paper cuts from How to Practice the Way of Meaningful Life by the Dalai Lama, weaving words of peace, empathy, and love into the very fabric of my work. These values remind us of what truly matters: the strength of our shared humanity and the power of unity to heal and transform.
Through this art, I hope to inspire a new way of thinking—a future where our beloved Syria stands as a beacon of hope, rebuilt on the foundations of love, understanding, and unwavering faith in the human spirit. Together, we will write a remarkable new chapter in the history of our country and craft a brighter, more compassionate world for generations to come.
