3/3

Since my maternity leave and working on my plates for show, I felt I couldn’t keep Naqd abandoned, so I had a few conversations with some incredible minds in the art scene and planned , a takeover that lasted from April up to July, it was planned to last until September however the last two artists were unfortunately unable to commit due to personal and professional loads.
The artists :

As for myself, I have been learning how to manage life after a baby, and started working on two private commissions that have been keeping me fully occupied. But that’s not where the story ends. I do have a few plans in mind but I’m learning how to balance projects while caring for my baby.

Today’s post was inspired by a conversation with who encouraged me to start dedicating a bit of time for Naqd again.

I’m beyond thankful for everyone that believes in naqd! Thank you for believing in me and I hope I get to see you soon.

Following and my wedding, and many incredible conversations about the art scene with Sharjah Art Foundation] and , we decided to partner up and created , that’s when I also found out I was pregnant. By the time Forsa school was wrapping up I was getting ready for my maternity leave, but I found out I was selected for the current show and so, I signed up in a ceramics studio and spent my last month of pregnancy wedging and rolling clay to make my plates happen.

Please visit to view the show .

Hello everyone!
My name is Rania Jishi, I am the founder of . I’m an artist, art educator and have recently become a mother. For the past few months I have been wanting to post on Naqd but for one reason or another haven’t been able to focus to do so.

I’m posting today to first thank everyone that has been supporting Naqd by either coming to one of the Crit sessions, or reposting and spreading the word about what has been happening. I also want to share some updates and look back at a few achievements and perhaps some future plans.

As many of you may already know, Naqd was running successfully, hosting crit sessions across Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi from 2018 up until early 2020. At the start of the pandemic I decided to switch Naqd to promote , a database I created that included the names and details of creatives impacted by the corona crisis, mainly in the UAE with A few names from around the world. I managed to include 84 names of which many were successfully either hired for a commission or a project and a few even managed to be hired full time. This data was shared across institutions, organizations and private clients. Unfortunately I couldn’t completely track the effectiveness of the database as many of the organizations did not share updates. I only know a few stories from the applicants directly. On a personal level during the same time, I was also planning my engagement and wedding.

Hello from Abu Dhabi! I’m and I’ll be with you for this month on this account (and hopefully in the real world as well!)

A little about me: I’m an artist interested in persistently locating and relocation language in the body, and have been recently thinking about the intertwining of pasts and future imaginaries to form our presents.

For this edition of Naqd’s Borrowed Vision, I’ll be exploring a party-crit set up, a more relaxed and social gathering to meet new friends and talk studio. More info soon!

Meet the Artist || Reem Al Ani

Reem Al Ani is an illustrator based in Dubai, where she grew up. She seeks to unravel the complex emotions that familiar surroundings and situations bring about in us. To portray these layered environments and lend a vulnerability to them, Reem often blends digital media with traditional methods, ranging from pencil sketches to printmaking. Each illustration is comprised of a collage of drawings, scanned then colored to form the final composition.
