We are pleased to invite you to the opening reception of Reimagined, a solo exhibition by Oussama Diab, on September 17 at 7 PM at Artbooth Gallery Abu Dhabi.

Diab’s works are held in major public and institutional collections, including Museum Arnhem, Valkhof Museum Nijmegen, the Art Collection of the Province of Gelderland, the Foundation for Art & Historical Artefacts a.s.r. & Aegon, and the Dubai Collection, alongside numerous distinguished private collections.

In Reimagined, Diab enters into an artistic dialogue with history. Rather than reproducing canonical masterpieces, he transforms and reinterprets them, allowing centuries old imagery to speak to contemporary realities.

Among the highlights of the exhibition is a striking reinterpretation of Pablo Picasso’s monumental Guernica, revisiting one of the twentieth century’s most powerful anti-war works. Titled Middle Eastern Guernica, Diab’s interpretation brings the historic composition into the present through his own perspective on conflict, displacement, and the enduring human consequences of war.

In Memoriam | Asaad Arabi (1941–2025)

It’s been a year since Asaad Arabi passed away. On this day, we remember Arabi, as one of the pioneering figures of modern and contemporary Arab art. A Lebanese-French painter, art critic, and researcher in aesthetics, Arabi leaves behind a remarkable artistic and intellectual legacy.

Throughout a career spanning more than six decades, Arabi developed a distinctive visual language that moved fluidly between figuration and abstraction, placing colour at the heart of his practice: bold, warm, expressive, and deeply charged with emotion.

Music occupied a particularly important place in Arabi’s artistic universe. Musicians, singers, and rhythm repeatedly entered his compositions, creating a dialogue between seeing and hearing, colour and sound, movement and memory.

Beyond painting, his work as a writer, critic, and researcher enriched the discourse surrounding Arab art and aesthetics, establishing him as an important intellectual voice of his generation.

For us, his legacy is also deeply personal. Asaad Arabi will forever remain part of Artbooth Gallery’s history and family. His vision, spirit, and remarkable body of work will continue to resonate across generations.

In Memoriam | Sliman Mansour (1947–2026)

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Sliman Mansour, one of the most important and influential artists of his generation.

For more than five decades, Mansour created a powerful visual language rooted in identity, memory, land, resilience, and steadfastness. Through his iconic imagery, he preserved collective stories and transformed art into an enduring expression of belonging, dignity, and hope.

His passing is an immeasurable loss to the international art world, but his vision and remarkable legacy will continue to inspire generations.

Our deepest condolences go to his family, loved ones, and the wider cultural community.

May his soul rest in peace🕊️

Reimagined marks a compelling new chapter in Diab’s artistic practice, bringing together a remarkable series of reinterpretations of some of the most celebrated masterpieces in the history of Western art. Drawing inspiration from iconic works by artists including Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Michelangelo, and Anthony van Dyck, Diab revisits these iconic compositions through his own distinctive visual language, one shaped by displacement, resilience, and an unwavering belief in humanity.

In the early 1960s, Yervant Hawarian began his artistic career at just fifteen as a cinema affiche painter, creating monumental, hand painted film posters for major theatres across Lebanon. Since the early 2000s, Hawarian has developed a deeply self reflective fine art practice, revisiting the golden era of Arab and international cinema through large scale paintings.

His work occupies a unique space at the intersection of cinema, portraiture, religious iconography, and vernacular graphic culture, transforming collective memories of the silver screen into powerful contemporary images.

We are pleased to announce Artbooth Gallery’s debut participation in KIAF SEOUL 2026, presenting the work of four remarkable artists: Lee Young A, Moon-E, Richard Hearns, and Soraya Abu Naba’a.

Together, their practices explore how personal and collective experiences are translated into visual form. Moving between landscape and abstraction, figure and gesture, material and memory, the presentation creates a cross cultural dialogue spanning the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Korea.

ON VIEW | IN TRANSIT

The powerful figurative works of internationally recognized Syrian, Kurdish painter Bahram Hajou, educated in Germany under Norbert Tadeusz, use the expressive lines of German Expressionism to probe the psychological depths of solitude and human connection. This emotional gravity finds a visceral, structural parallel in the abstract, materially experimental canvases of Lebanese artist Hanibal Srouji. Drawing directly from his experience during the Lebanese Civil War, Srouji uses a blowtorch to burn, cut, and puncture his surfaces, turning the canvas into a scarred urban landscape that echoes the architectural trauma of Beirut while balancing a delicate tension between destruction and renewal.
