Rehearsals continue as we build up to the show on the 29th of May. Icala Lezinduna, an A-Level Ndebele set book, is coming to life on stage.

Theatre remains one of the most powerful ways to teach—audiences engage, respond, and connect more deeply compared to traditional lecturing methods. Learning becomes an experience, not just a lesson. lezinduna NACZ Intwasa ARTS Festival koBULAWAYO Thabani Moyo Kelvin Chikonzo

It’s been an exciting first quarter bringing "The Painted Kite" to life 🎭✨

Written by Chipo Precious Basopo, directed by Matesu Dube, and performed by Umkhathi Theatre Works, this vibrant Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production explores friendship, bullying, forgiveness, and the power of imagination.

Featuring Fidelis Tshuma (Themba), Lorin Sibanda (Sihle), and Menyika (Jason), the story follows two young dreamers whose kites carry their hopes of one day becoming pilots.

Yesterday, we bid farewell to Antony Lubbe, a remarkable actor who has been part of Umkhathi’s journey since 2022.

Antony brought depth, discipline, and passion to our stage—most memorably as the Governor in Ihloka and the Sergeant in Bayethe Nkosi. His commitment to his craft and his ability to fully inhabit every role set him apart as a true professional.

Beyond the stage, Antony is an exceptional human being—humble, respectful, and a joy to work with.

As he begins a new chapter with his relocation to the UK, we wish him nothing but success and fulfillment. Once Umkhathi, always Umkhathi.

Travel well, Antony. Umkhathi will always remember you. 🎭✨ Centre For Talent Development - CTDBulawayo Theatre

To truly engage children in Theatre for Young Audiences, you have to dig deeper.
It’s about finding songs and chants that speak their language — rhythms they can clap to, words they can repeat, and melodies that invite them into the story.

When children sing along, they don’t just watch theatre… they become part of it.

Take a child to the theatre.
Let them sing. Let them imagine. Let them belong. ASSITEJ International Centre For Talent Development - CTD Fidelis Tshuma Jabulani Ndiweni Assitej India Trevor Mawaka Memory Kumbota Assitej Luxembourg Assitej Zimbabwe
