Medical Travelogue: *Medical Mission to Ikelenge, Mwinulunga Districts excites people*
By Andrew H. Phiri
AS the Zambia Flying Doctors Services plane touched down on the rain-wet terrain of Ikelenge District, nestled in the North-Western province of Zambia, a sense of hope and healing filled the air.
At 11:55, the aircraft landed with precision, its wheels gently touching the drizzly airstrip in a gesture of arrival and promise.
The eminent Health Minister, Elijah Muchima, stepped out of the plane, accompanied by a team of medical devotees; Dr. Lisulo Walubita, Director for Clinical Care and Diagnostic Services, Prof. Lloyd Mulenga, Director Infectious Diseases and an astounded infectious diseases expert, and Dr. Suwilanji Sivile, UTH's Infectious Diseases Physician, were all part of this special mission.
Their destination was the Kalene Hills Hospital, Ikelenge Rural Health Centre, and eventually Mwinulunga Hospital, where they would attend urgent medical matters and bring solace to those in need.
Before embarking on their medical mission, Minister Muchima, who is also the area Member of Parliament, officiated at the International Labour Day celebrations.
With passion and conviction, he urged workers and health staff to be diligent and dedicated to their craft. He also announced the arrival of the medical team, generating excitement and anticipation among the locals.
As the medical team began their work, they were met with eagerness and gratitude. The morning sun saw them driving to Kalene Mission Hospital, where they would attend to people with various health challenges and appreciate service delivery at the facility that was established more than a century ago.
With skill and compassion, they mentored the staff, interacted with students, and encouraged them to pursue their profession with confidence.
One lady, upon hearing the news of the medical team's arrival, embarked on a journey to Ikelenge Rural Health Centre, seeking assessment and guidance
