What exactly is Ichisekela Insalamu?
When a young man intends to marry, he presents Insalamu to the family of the woman he wishes to marry. Insalamu is money given to the bride’s family as a respectful gesture.
👉 Important:Insalamu is not a fixed charge or a price placed on the woman. The amount is given according to what the young man feels is respectful and appropriate to the bride’s family.
After Insalamu has been presented, the bride’s mother prepares a special meal for the groom’s family.
This meal is known as Ichisekela Insalamu.

🤝 Acceptance and togetherness
🌿 Respect between the two families
🪘 The continuation of our cultural traditions
It is the family saying, in essence:
"We appreciate that you have brought Insalamu to our home.”
Ichisekela Insalamu is therefore not simply about food. It represents appreciation, respect and the coming together of two families.
