Glorious Band

The Glorious Band is a legendary Zambian musical group from Chingola that rose to national fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Known for their catchy melodies and energetic rhythms, they are celebrated as one of the most influential bands in Zambia's music history, specifically within the Kalindula genre.

History and Formation

Origin: Formed in 1998, the band started as a church choir at St David Church in Chingola.

Inspiration: The group was heavily inspired by the Zambian music legend PK Chishala.

Rise to Fame: They gained widespread recognition in 2000 with the release of their breakthrough album, Isambo Lyamfwa.

Touring Success: At their peak, they were so popular that they had a two-year fully booked schedule and once stayed in Lusaka for six months due to continuous bookings.

Original Band Members

The original five-man lineup consisted of:

Jonathan Chibesa: Lead singer and rhythm guitarist.

Allan Kasafu: Backup vocalist.

Derrick Mwansa: Solo guitarist.

Christian Kenda: Bass guitarist.

Obius Mbiangu: Drummer

Legacy and Evolution

The band's history is also marked by tragedy, as they lost three original members over several years: Obius Mbiangu (2005), Jonathan Chibesa (2007), and Allan Kasafu (2011).

Despite these losses, surviving members Christian Kenda and Derrick Mwansa recruited new talent to keep the legacy alive. The "New Glorious Band" released an album in 2017 featuring newer members like lead vocalist Alex Kangwa, drummer Kenny Mulenga, and rhythm guitarist Lanford Kandela.

JOYCE NYIRONGO.
She hit the scene with her powerful and versatile vocals in the 1980s and was always a marvel to watch on stage. Her voice was dynamic and carried that emotional touch to it. Joyce’s star started growing in 1985 when her blockbuster single Mate hit the airwaves and record stores, she was in the limelight again in 1986 when she released Sala and then sebe in 1988. On all those tracks she was backed and produced by her brother John Nyirongo and his Super Vina Band. This first ever partnership between brother and sister on the Zambian music scene culminated into the album Succession released by Teal Records in 1990.
In Mate regarded as Joyce’s biggest hit, a woman complains about her husbands bad relatives saying she now understands why he has been chronically remarrying. Having passed through two other marital breakups she cautions him that he might up marrying his own sister after she too is gone.

Memwa my cousin is another peace of lurid love, here is a guy falling for his cousin.

The Song SEBE talks about a man leaving the wife after things get better and marries a new girl whose company only encourages him to spin rounds and they get drunk,Sebe dashes off to Ndola, the singer complains of sebe's eye for women,he messes up his good marriage
