KITWE POLICE ARREST โMAMA CHIKAMONEKAโ OVER VIRAL VIDEO MOCKING UPND TRUSTEE
Kitwe Central Police have arrested and charged a 63-year-old businesswoman for allegedly humiliating a UPND district trustee in a viral Facebook video.
The suspect, Mary Bwalya, popularly known as โMama Chikamonekaโ, of House No. 603, Mukuba Natwange, was arrested on Friday and charged with _Prohibition of Harassment and Humiliation under Section 22(1)(a) of the Cyber Crimes Act.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi said the complaint was lodged on April 25, 2026, at 14:00 hours by Martin Kafutubele, 58, of Flat No. 4, Zambia Railways, Independence Avenue, Parklands.
Mr yuyi said Kafutubele, who is a Kitwe District Trustee for the UPND and a former Zambia Railways employee, told police he felt humiliated after watching a video circulated on Facebook by the account โMama Chikamonekaโ
In the video, posted in the first week of April, a woman is heard saying in Bemba: _โBa Kafutubele abalebomba ku Railways, baliyonda nga wabamona kuti walila nokulila, incito kupitanafye mu town na ma file ayabula imilimo.โ
Translated, the statement means: _โMr. Kafutubele has lost weight, he is just suffering and the only job he does is to move around town with files which have no job.โ
He said Kafutubele reported the matter to police, stating the remarks were directed at him and had caused humiliation.
Bwalya was later summoned to Kitwe Central Police Station. In a warn-and-caution statement, she denied the allegations, claiming she was not referring to the complainant but to a different Kafutubele who is currently in Kabwe.
โLooking at the evidence available which indicates that the complainant used to work for Zambia Railways and is a party member for UPND, the Police remained with no option but to charge and arrest the suspect,โ police said.
Bwalyaโs Vivo phone, allegedly used to record and post the video, has been seized for forensic examination. She has since been released on polic
