Splashers let's quickly clarify the date issue. Those of you who have been Splashing for a while know that the Summa Splash date is usually the first weekend of November, which would have been the 7th of November.
However, the fact that the elections are on the 4th of November forced us to change the date for a number of reasons. The first thing to note is that elections are not a 1 day event, but a series of events leading up to and after the elections, which somehow get in our way. These following issues affected the date:
- we had engagements with SAPS and they indicated that due to the fact that they have to work overtime pre, during and post elections they might not be available for the 7th to support the Splash with the required man-power. So there is no way that we can go ahead with the event if the police are not going to be there as your safety is of paramount importance to us and the event.
- we have to hold a number of preparatory & planning meetings with stakeholders such as the municipality, traffic department and police prior to the event and the availability of these stakeholders might be a challenge as well as they would be focused on maintaining order during the election period.
We then had to consider alternative dates for this year:
- 31 October: We were skeptical of this date as it's a weekend before the elections and the likelihood is that a number of political parties will be hosting their rallies that weekend.
- 14 and 21 November: Having considered the socio-economic conditions of our targeted regions, the reality is that not a lot of people will be having money on those weekends.
And that, pretty much, Splashers are the reasons for the date of 28th November. Let's Splash ππΊπ₯π₯π₯
