UPCOMING EXHIBITION
Unfolding Surfaces - is a duo exhibition that sets out to discover connections found in the materiality of folded Tetra Pak. Both .3 and use this medium extensively in their works.
ISHEANESU DONDO’s eclectic and wide-ranging interests include science, astronomy and religion. He left the study of biochemistry to pursue his art career, developing an enigmatic style that moves between figuration, symbolism and abstraction.
Dondo combines found materials (including tetra pak) with intricate linework to create layered, symbolic compositions. Working from Shamva, Zimbabwe, he transforms everyday fragments into visual maps rich with memory and meaning. His use of unconventional surfaces reflects a resourcefulness and speaks to themes of resilience, materiality and spiritual enquiry.
His influences include the Hermetic philosophy of ancient Egypt, divination practices in Shona religion, and Zimbabwean artists and stone sculptors such as Mukomberanwa, Gutsa, Gwetai and Zvavahera.
MARELISE VAN WYK is a printmaker based in Simonstown, whose practice explores both traditional and experimental approaches to printmaking.
Her practice is rooted in a continued investigation into the expressive possibilities of print media. Over the past eight years, Van Wyk has developed an innovative approach to Tetra Pak printmaking, embracing the recycled material for its softness, flexibility, and unique textural qualities. Unlike traditional metal or Perspex plates, Tetra Pak allows for spontaneous mark-making, layering, embossing, folding, and experimentation, producing rich surfaces and unexpected forms. By transforming discarded packaging into intricate prints and sculptural processes, her work challenges conventional printmaking techniques while highlighting the creative potential of accessible, sustainable materials.
Join us for the opening of this exhibition on Sunday 31 May at 11 am.
