Stellenberg Meisieskoor / Girls Choir - SMK The SMK is the girl's choir of Stellenberg High School. The Stellenberg Girls Choir was established in 1999 under the baton of André van der Merwe.

Members are all attending Stellenberg High, which is known as the institution where choral singing is celebrated. Since its inception, the choir has won numerous first places in national and international choral competitions and is regarded as one of the best girls’ choirs in the world. During the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia the SMK achieved a second place in the category “Spirit and Fait “w

ith 94% to China who won with 94,5%. They also achieved a second place in the category “Contemporanea” with 93,5% and a third place in the category “Popular Choral Music” with an unbelievable 95%.
• They were the overall winners of the “ATKV Nasionale Applous Kompetisie” for: 1997 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2022.
• In 2002 they won the category for Women’s Choirs at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales.
• In 2004, they were awarded the highest percentage for any choir at the World Choir Olympics. These achievements are a testimony to the girls’ talent, dedication and enthusiasm.
• And in 2006 they won the much acclaimed Choir of the World trophy in Llangollen Wales.
• In 2007 they are awarded third place on the world ranking list compiled by Musica Mundi.
• In 2008 the Stellenberg Girls’ Choir achieved the outstanding achievement to be awarded 96, 7% in the category: Even Voices at the 5th Olympic Competition for Choirs in Graz, Austria. This is the highest achievement ever recorded.
• In 2012 they were awarded three gold medals in the World Choir Games in Cincinatti, USA. In two of the three categories for which they entered they were World Champions.
• SMK was ranked 15th out of 1000 choirs worldwide in the 2014 ranking list of Musica Mundi. They were also ranked 3rd out of 50 in the Children’s and Youth Choir Category.
• The SMK participated in the 10th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition Wernigerode, Germany during July 2017.

SMK skitter by die Applous-koorkompetisie!

Die Stellenberg Meisiekoor het Vrydagaand aan die ATKV Applous-koorkompetisie deelgeneem. Dit was ‘n uitdunrondte, waarna die drie top kore in die land na die nasionale finaal genooi sal word. Die finaal vind vanjaar op 1 Augustus in die Kaapstadse Stadsaal plaas.

SMK was in good company and shared the stage with the top choirs from the Western Cape, including choirs from Bloemhof Meisieskool, Paarl Girls’ High, and the boys’ choir from Paul Roos. The girls gave everything, and their commitment and passion could be heard in the beautiful music they shared with the audience and adjudicators.

Een van die beoordelaars som ons meisieskoor se optrede soos volg op: “Baie geluk met uitmuntende werk deur die dirigent, koor en begeleier. Julle is ’n formidabele span!” SMK behaal goud vir hul optrede. Nou hou ons duim vas dat hulle vir die finale rondte in Augustus genooi sal word!

ATKV APPLOUS STREEKSUITDUNNE

Die SMK het gisteraand weer die voorreg gehad om die verhoog te deel met kore van uitstaande talent in die kategorie Prestige Meisies / Seuns Koor. Baie geluk ook aan Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, Paarl Girls' High - Hoër Meisieskool Paarl en Paul Roos Gymnasium met jul uitsonderlike uitvoerings. Ons meisies het ons ongelooflik trots gemaak met ’n asemrowende optrede en het hul harte uitgesing. Julle passie, talent en toewyding was duidelik sigbaar in elke noot.

Die terugvoer van een van die beoordeelaars lui as volg: "Wat 'n heerlike voorreg om na 'n uiteenlopende program te luister wat met uitmuntende presisie en musikale selfvertroue aangebied word".

Girls we are SO, SO proud of you for achieving GOLD. This is the highest mark a school can achieve during this round of the competition. We now eagerly await the results to see if we have secured our place in the finals and the opportunity to defend our title once again. Good luck, girls!

Die Stellenberg Meisieskoor het die afgelope week aan die Tygerberg Eisteddfod deelgeneem. Alhoewel die stormweer ons voorbereiding effens ontwrig het, het die meisies die kompetisie met goeie fokus benader, en hulle harde werk die afgelope jaar is met 'n uitstekende optrede beloon. The judges were blown away by their beautiful singing and masterful performance, saying that “the choir is next level”, the performance was a “wow”, and that it was “an honour to be able to listen to the beautiful choristers”. SMK received cm laude for their performance.

Baie geluk aan elke koorlid en ons fantastiese koorleier, André van der Merwe. Sterkte met julle volgende optrede op 22 Mei aan die ATKV Applous-koorkompetisie.
