Five years ago I drew my very first wildlife doodle and to commemorate this day, I decided to redo the very same drawing. It is interesting to see how much my technique have changed but also improved during this time.

For those that is new to this page... Doodling can be defined as casual and often aimless drawing. It acts as an optimal brain stimulant by improving ones focus, it provides a subconscious way to process to emotions, relief boredom, calm anxiety and express your mood

Doodles play a powerful role in conservation by raising awareness about various species, habitats and environmental issues inspiring people to take action and make a positive impact on the environment

"Endangered means we still have time, extinction means gone forever"

Apart from the regular posts, I always try to do a special post that falls on a conservation awareness related day. Unfortunately life happens and I don't always have the initially planned content for that specific day and as it happened, I missed International Endangered Species Day that was celebrated on the 15th of May.

I also try and bring attention to as much wildlife species across the globe as possible, their conservation status, threats and the wildlife warriors that continue to fight for their survival.

In honor of the great David Attenborough 100th birthday today! How many hours I have spent watching and learning from your wise words about the natural world, you are such an inspiration and example to many

International Leopard Day is celebrated every year on 3 May to raise awareness for the conversation of leopards (Panthera pardus). They are of the most elusive species of Africa's Big Five members due to their well camouflage rosette coats and their sights are always rewarding.

⬇️ They are listed as near threatened on the IUCN list as their population is declining fast due to habitat loss, prey depletion, conflict with people, trophy hunting, poaching for skin and body parts.

Some Fascinating Facts about Leopards
🥩 Leopards are opportunist hunters meaning that they’ll seize any opportunity to kill prey.

💪🏼Leopards are the strongest climbers of all the large cats. One of their favourite hiding spots is in trees.

⚖️They can range between 30 and 70 kilograms and are the most adaptable of all big cats

🌄They are nocturnal and do most of their hunting at night, as they have impressive eyesight and hearing

💨 Leopards are fast felines and can run at up to 58km/h!

April 27th celebrates International Hyena Day that aims to raise awareness about these misunderstood and highly intelligent predators. Hyena is an integral part of the ecosystem, providing waste disposal services and contributing to Africa’s world-renowned biodiversity.

As with most of our planet's living animals, the primary threats to hyenas are all to do with humans. Changes in land use by humans reduce the hyenas’ natural living space. Many hyenas get hit by cars and killed. Poaching is also a threat.

Interesting facts about hyena
🦴 They are scavengers, but also skilled hunters and catch as much as 95% of their own food

🪱 They're exceptional clean-up crew when it comes down to the leftovers. Their powerful jaws can crush through bone and hooves. This service prevents waste that would normally attract parasites and diseases.

🐈 There are four different species of hyena: spotted hyena, brown hyena, striped hyena and aardwolf. Although hyenas have been said to resemble dogs, they are, in fact, more closely related to cats.

👸🏼 In spotted hyena clans, it's the alpha female that leads, as she outranks all the males. Females are generally larger, stronger and longer lived.

Every year on April 25th, we celebrate International Penguin Day—a global reminder of the unique role penguins plays in our planet’s ecosystems. These birds are not just symbols of the icy South—they are indicators of ocean health and climate change. From the sub-Antarctic islands to the Antarctic continent itself, penguins serve as sentinels of the sea, helping scientists track environmental shifts that affect us all.

🐧FUN FACT: There are 18 different species of penguins. The emperor penguin is the largest, and the little penguin (known as the fairy penguin or the blue penguin) is the smallest.

Beavers are crucial "ecosystem engineers" that create and maintain vibrant wetland habitats, boosting biodiversity by providing homes for fish, birds, and insects. Their dams improve water quality by filtering pollutants, manage flood risks, and replenish groundwater, acting as essential, natural agents for climate change mitigation and drought resistance.

Did you know International Beaver Day is hosted on 7 April every year to celebrate how these rodents restore ecosystems and create wetlands

🦫 Fun Fact: Beavers are the largest rodent species in North America
