MORUKURU OCEAN HOUSE
Designed as a low-profile structure embedded into the coastal landscape of the De Hoop Nature Reserve. A planted roof extends the surrounding fynbos across the building, reducing visual impact and improving thermal performance while reinforcing the connection to site.
A robust palette of local stone, brick and timber anchors the building, selected for durability in the coastal environment. Internally, exposed timber beams and natural finishes introduce warmth and texture, while large glazed openings frame ocean views and bring consistent natural light into the spaces.
The planning prioritises outward-facing living, with bedrooms and shared areas opening directly onto terraces. Off-grid systems are integrated from the outset, supporting a design approach that responds directly to the environmental conditions of the reserve.
