Good day South Africa 🇿🇦

My name is Cwenga. I’m 11 years old, a Grade 5 learner at Pandla Public Primary School, and I’m proud to be your _Junior Miss New Brighton 2025_.

On 16 June 1976, thousands of black students just like me marched in Soweto. They were young. They were brave. They stood up against Bantu Education because they believed we deserve to learn with dignity.

Today, I stand in my sash because of them.

To all the kids watching: *You are never too young to know your history. You are never too young to make a difference.*

Greetings South Africa, I’m Lisakhanya Damons, a finalist for _Miss Teen Excellence South Africa 2026_.

Today we honour the youth of 16 June 1976. Their courage. Their bravery. Their sacrifice. And the positive change they died for.

As future leaders of tomorrow, may we continue to rise, use our voices, and be a positive change.

June 16 is a remembrance of all the learners who fought for the youth of today. Their fight gave us power, freedom and equality. Today, we can learn in a language we understand.

*Today, I stand for that same dream: Freedom. Education. Equality.*

On 16 June 1976, the youth of Soweto marched for one thing: the right to learn in their own languages. They were students. They were young. But they were brave enough to stand when the world told them to sit down.

Today, as _Miss New Brighton 2025_, I honour their sacrifice. Because of them, we have the freedom to get an education and change our lives.

To every young person watching: *You are not too young to lead. You are not too young to speak up. You are not too young to build the South Africa we dreamed of.*

This Youth Day, remember who fought for you. Then ask yourself: What will you do with the freedom they died for?

On 16 June 1976, the youth of Soweto chose courage over comfort. They faced bullets for the right to learn in their own language. They lost their lives so we could claim our future.

As Miss New Brighton 1st Princess 2025, I carry that legacy with responsibility, not just a sash.

We are not waiting to become leaders. We are not “tomorrow’s” anything.
*We are the difference of TODAY.*

This Youth Day, honor them with action. Learn your history. Use your voice. Serve your community.

Because freedom without purpose is just another cage.
