Many social issues of South Africa are concentrated here: There is a high rate of youth unemployment, High school dropout, crime, child-headed households, HIV/Aids, women abuse, poverty, drug dealing, prostitution and crime. The MK Skills Development Foundation offers a series of alternatives to the community in Mamelodi as well as the greater Tshwane area. The various projects offer children, youth and adults the opportunity to engage with skills development and life skills activities that facilitates communication, participation and community building. The inter-cultural disciplinary programme facilitates interactions between residents, youth and offer alternative activities for children during the school holidays. Urban poverty and unemployment continually result in people feeling angry and dissatisfied with their surroundings and with the influx of crime and few alternatives for the youth to be involved in extracurricular activities leads them to seek for guidance from peers and adults that do not have their interest at heart. Through life skills, motivational talks, counselling, workshops, team building, building self-worth, moral rehabilitation and exploring identity, the MK Skills Development Foundation offers a holistic approach to families and contributes to communication skills within the communities they connect with.
