Before Roger Goode there was Derek "The Bandit" Richardson on 5FM.

Durban-born The Bandit is one of the pioneering figures in the South Africa's electronic dance music scene and influential radio shows.

Derek The Bandit was on 5FM for years and famous for his dynamic DJ sets on air and bringing dance music to a broader audience. The Bandit took his first show on 5FM LIVE from Ibiza during an EDM music festival.

During a radio reshuffle in 2001, his contract with the station was not renewed. However , following his departure from 5FM, The Bandit joined a now defunct community radio station Mix 93.8 FM to continue serving dance music radio until he left the station.
