Join us on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟯𝟭 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 from 17:00 - 18:30 for the public exhibition of works created during Art Muse Collective’s 3rd annual 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 in Nieu-Bethesda, led by facilitating artist Dina Grobler.

These unfired clay sculptures by participants are a celebration of raw creativity, storytelling, and form - shaped by hand, heart, and the soulful stillness of the Karoo. Each piece is a moment captured in clay, before it’s fired, in its most honest and vulnerable form.

At Art Muse Collective, we believe that creativity extends far beyond the studio. Every retreat is thoughtfully designed to immerse our guests in the heart and soul of the places we visit, weaving together art, history, culture and unforgettable experiences.

One of the highlights of our Clay Sculpture Retreat was a fascinating guided tour of the beautiful NG Church in Nieu-Bethesda, led by the wonderfully knowledgeable Oom Willie Olivier. Built in 1905, the church stands as a remarkable testament to the village’s rich history, and hearing its stories from someone so passionate made the experience all the more special.

We love introducing our guests to the hidden treasures of the Karoo, creating moments of discovery and connection that inspire creativity in unexpected ways. Because an art retreat isn’t only about making art—it’s about experiencing a place, meeting its people, and returning home with memories that become part of your own creative story.

Getting our hands dirty on Day 1 of our 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗶𝗲𝘂-𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮!

Dina explained about the nature and beauty of clay and got the students started with their unique pieces.

This year, The Ibis Lounge is our host - the perfect cozy spot with a fire place, rustic stone walls and front stoep overlooking a quaint Karoo road. After a creative morning, a delicious lunch was served to get the juices flowing again!

𝐀𝐫𝐭, 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 & 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐨 – 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Last night we officially welcomed our wonderful group of artists to Nieu-Bethesda as we kicked off our 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗿.

Before the clay, the creativity and the conversations begin, we always believe in gathering around a table. There is something special about sharing a meal that turns strangers into friends and creates the atmosphere for the week ahead.

Our welcome dinner took place at 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗯𝗶𝘀, where Chef Barbara Weitz presented the beautiful “Tannie Helen” Menu – a heartfelt culinary tribute to the late Helen Martins. Inspired by Helen’s recipes, favourite ingredients and the stories woven into her life, each of the six courses offered a contemporary interpretation while honouring the spirit of the village. From Veldtroos and My World to Dinner for Friends, A Sweet Memory and Moonlight Through My Window, every course carried its own narrative. Barbara’s personal connection to Nieu-Bethesda added another layer of meaning, making the evening not only a memorable dining experience but also an introduction to the history, culture and soul of this remarkable Karoo village.

Today, the aprons are on, the clay is ready, and our creative journey begins.
