𝗔 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 🌿🏆

The Royal Agricultural Society was proud to support the KZN Youth Show, held recently at Tweedie Hall as part of the 2026 R.A.S. Heritage Events programme.

Despite this year's necessary adjustments to the format, the day was a real celebration of commitment, confidence and skill from the young participants — from the show ring and displays to the prizegiving moments captured here.

Our sincere thanks go to the KZN Youth Show team for their hard work in organising and setting up such a successful event, to the many generous sponsors who made the day possible, and to the schools, parents, teachers and supporters who encouraged these young people every step of the way.

🏆 Most importantly, congratulations to all the children who took part. Your effort, sportsmanship and enthusiasm were a credit to your schools, your families and the wider agricultural community.

Just 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 until the 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 & 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 brings a warm mix of honey, crafts, food, music and family-friendly fun to Howick.

Hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society and the KZN Bee Farmers Association, this special 𝗥.𝗔.𝗦. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 takes place on 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟲 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, from 𝟵𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝟰𝗽𝗺 at 𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸.

Visitors can look forward to honey stalls, mead and braggot tasting, apitherapy, quilting, embroidery, woodwork, crafts, guild displays, children’s activities, food and refreshments — 𝗽𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 by Jason Hartman and Chris Dust 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟮 𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝟰𝗽𝗺. 🎸🎶

Entry is 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, with 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝟮𝟬 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 encouraged in support of Midlands Hospice, FreeMe Wildlife and uMngeni SPCA.

From the quality of the animals presented, to the preparation, professionalism and unmistakable style they bring to the show ring, Hatari represents the kind of dedication that makes the Royal’s stud sheep section so special.

Their 2024 Gold Cup win with OJ — Supreme Champion Ram on Show — remains a proud Royal Show moment, and a fitting recognition of years of commitment to breeding excellence.

We look forward to welcoming Marius and Jan Eksteen, and the Hatari team, back to the Royal in October. 🏆🐑

THROWBACK THURSDAY 🏆🐏

One of the most special moments in Hatari Farming’s journey, and undoubtedly one of the highlights of our stud breeding career, was winning the prestigious Interbreed Floating Trophy for Supreme Champion Ram on Show at the Royal Agricultural Exhibition in 2024.

It’s hard to believe that this achievement was exactly two years ago today.

Our exceptional ram, OJ (Oorlog Jr) HE22-037, stood above all breeds on the showgrounds to claim the ultimate honour – a moment of immense pride, gratitude and reward for years of dedication to genetic improvement and breeding excellence.

Achievements like these are never the result of one animal alone. They reflect the commitment, passion and hard work invested by everyone involved in the Hatari Farming program.

As we look back on this unforgettable milestone, we are reminded that success is built one generation at a time.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Hatari Farming along the way. The journey continues, and the best is yet to come.

The October Royal Agricultural Show will place a strong spotlight on South Africa’s sheep and goat breeders, with a focused small stock programme featuring regional championships, interbreed judging, Gold Cup honours, and the prestigious Royal Carcass Competition and Auction.

For breeders, the Royal is much more than a show ring. It is also a respected platform for showcasing genetics, breed quality, preparation and commercial excellence — while connecting with judges, buyers, agricultural specialists and fellow stockmen from across the country.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗞𝗭𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗪? 🌱🐾

Tomorrow, Sunday 31 May, Tweedie Hall hosts the KZN Youth Show as part of the 𝗥.𝗔.𝗦. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 programme — and it is well worth taking a closer look at what this special event is all about.

The Youth Show is not simply a “children’s show”. It is a practical, skills-based agricultural programme that helps young people develop knowledge, confidence, responsibility and respect for animals.

For over four decades, the KZN Youth Show has been cultivating the next generation of farmers by giving young participants a platform to test and prove the skills they work on throughout the year.

Participants are assessed on far more than just appearance. They are tested on their knowledge of the animal, preparation for the show ring, grooming and handling, and their showmanship in front of the judge.

This year’s classes include:

• Dog showmanship or agility
• Auctioneering
• Photography
• Poultry
• Horse showmanship
• Rabbits
• Pigeons
• Pets

Due to the current Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, cloven-hoofed animals are not being shown at the moment — but the spirit of the Youth Show remains very much alive.

For visitors, tomorrow is a chance to see young people learning by doing: speaking clearly, handling animals carefully, presenting themselves with pride, and building the kind of practical confidence that can last a lifetime.

For parents, it is also a chance to understand how the Youth Show can open a door for children who are interested in animals, agriculture, public speaking, responsibility and rural life.
