Come and discover how ordinary ballpoint pens can be transformed into something truly beautiful as you learn to create and colour a gorgeous Protea.

No artistic experience needed. No pressure to be “good at art”. Just come, slow down, get creative and enjoy the process. 💛

This drawing has a story.
In the early days of Hands of Compassion, I was also the school bus driver, dropping off and collecting the kids who stayed with us, at Witkoppen School and Diepsloot Combined.

The roadworks were wreaking havoc with the traffic while Fourways Shopping Mall was being built. In the midst of the dust and frustrated commuters, I spotted a tree in bloom; it used to give me so much joy amidst the chaos.
The following year, there it was again.
One morning after dropping the kids off, I came back the long way around, stopped, and plucked off a leaf, which I took to a nursery and was able to buy 2 of those trees.

We planted them outside the kitchen door, in full view of our family's cottage and my office window. I saw them grow and flower every year, providing shade for hoc residents as they chatted and often roared with laughter at their own jokes.

I have never known the name of this flower until now. To me, they were always the pink flowers from the HOC trees 🥰

My very knowledgeable friend Lyn Van Rooyen has just told me that their name is Bauhenia or Camelsfoot 🩷

August is here, and I love the bright daisies that pop up in my garden. Last year, they were the inspiration for this ballpoint pen picture.

I hold private workshops (minimum 4) for family and friends at a venue of your choice (for now, in Gauteng only, please 😍)
