Being a teacher certainly has its perks, and the school holidays are definitely one of them.
After a challenging second term, it's time to slow down, reflect, and recharge. It's time to dust off the sketchbook, breathe deeply, and notice the things that often go unseen in the busyness of everyday life.
Over the past few days, I've been practising the art of truly seeing—looking to nature as my greatest teacher. Studying the lines carved into weathered rock, the patterns hidden in tree bark, the balance of the landscape, and the quiet harmony woven through it all. These observations have found their way onto the pages of my sketchbook, reminding me that creativity begins with paying attention.
Wishing all the incredible art teachers out there a restful holiday. May you find time to refill your creative cup, seek inspiration, and simply enjoy the process. 🎨🌿✨

Learn how to make an Exploding Book! 📖✨

Fold, glue, and assemble a series of simple paper squares to create a book that expands when opened. This fun and easy project transforms ordinary paper into an interactive handmade journal, sketchbook, or keepsake. Perfect for creatives of all ages—just fold, connect, and watch it come to life! 👩‍🎨

How to Make an Exploding (Squash) Book
1) Fold each square sheet of paper in half horizontally and vertically, then unfold.
2) Fold the paper diagonally both ways and unfold again.
3) Bring the folds together so the paper collapses into a smaller square triangle shape.
4) Repeat with all the paper squares.
5) Glue the folded sections together, attaching one side of each section to the next to create a chain.
6) Cut two pieces of card slightly larger than the folded pages for the front and back covers.
7) Glue the first and last folded sections to the card covers.

Attach a ribbon between the cover and pages if desired.
Allow the glue to dry before opening.

When opened, the book expands and unfolds to reveal multiple connected pages, creating a surprising "exploding" effect.
