Two people living with HIV have gone without daily treatment for extended periods after receiving an experimental one-time cell therapy, with one maintaining viral control for nearly two years, according to research presented by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

The researchers say that if larger trials confirm these early results, the therapy could one day give people living with HIV a new way to control the virus without daily pills, potentially bringing scientists closer to long-term HIV remission without lifelong treatment.
