We are officially out of office!

I am taking some time off to recuperate and recharge. And as a result I will have no access to internet or devices for 12 whole days (ah, bliss!).

I will respond to everyone when I am back in the office from 23rd May onwards.

William and Vicky's Wedding Sneak Peek - 25 September 2021.

This is the first wedding (and "big" event, really) that I have photographed since Covid started. I am so grateful that I get to be a part of these incredibly special and meaningful days in people's lives. And this day in particular was such a wonderful reminder that even in really tough and uncertain times, love always wins.

This is a day that I will always remember. So much so, that just as William predicted, when Vicky made her entrance in tears, I was holding back tears of my own. I'm even getting emotional writing this out, thinking back to how warm and full of love and happiness the whole day was.

William and Vicky's intimate wedding ceremony took place at William's Grandmother's home in Fish Hoek, with William's Grandmother as the pastor. The celebration with close friends and family was at The Stella Bar at The Roundhouse in camps Bay.

I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness together!

Mariana’s bo***ir shoot was done on location at a beautiful loft apartment in the Cape Town CBD.

You may be thinking…”but hold on, Kat shoots fashion and lifestyle”. Well, you are correct. I do also shoot fashion and lifestyle imagery but over the years I have also shot lingerie and bo***ir here and there, and although it has always been fun to shoot I didn’t think much about it at the time.

With lockdown, not being able to leave our homes, do big shoots or have big gatherings much of the past year I have decided to put a more intentional focus on bo***ir photography. It is one on one, safe, and I LOVE the idea of using my photography to uplift and inspire women to see themselves just as they are; beautiful, whole and worthy, exactly as they are!

I am starting off with the ***ir Instagram page for now. I'm still deciding if I should start up a new page for this bo***ir arm of my brand. Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments.

The shoot was done on location at a beautiful loft apartment in the Cape Town CBD.

This shoot was a full circle moment for me.

Pippa was my lecturer in college (if I remember correctly in 2006, which is 15 years ago.) Wow. What?! Lol. That just made me feel old.
In those 15 years I have watched Pippa go from having a few tattoos to having many, many tattoos. Change her hair what feels like a hundred times (but still look the same age as 15 years ago). Marry her wonderful husband, Sekwa. Be on a TV show (that I would watch from the comfort of my couch at my parents place). And have not one, but two of the most beautiful, polite and fearless kids I have had the pleasure of meeting. Both of the boys personalities are so different yet they shine in their own unique, quirky ways and this shows in the images. Over the years I have photographed some portraits of Pippa and Elio, back when Zak was a tiny baby. And now, on a recent trip back to Joburg, I got to document the whole family.

While I was editing these images all of this was running through my head. So yes, doing this shoot was a full circle moment for me, for sure.

Photographer Kat Grudko Has a Secret for Better Bo***ir Photography

A big thank you to Chris at The Phoblographer who interviewed me on bo***ir photography, being a Profoto South Africa ambassador, an empath and doing inner work to be a better creative.

This interview was a journey and touched on things I hadn’t even realized that have affected how I see myself, photography and the people I photograph through my images.

We spoke with bo***ir photographer Kat Grudko about the psychology of a shoot. And a lot of it has to do with being an empathic persona.

A South African Elopement Planned 24 Hours Before Lockdown

Holy moley! We got featured on Rock 'n Roll Bride!

Nadinka and Renier called me the day after lockdown was announced and asked me if I was available to shoot their elopement the next day. Dinka had spent almost a year arranging the papers for their marriage license (Dinka is German so this was quite a mission for her to do) and when lockdown was announced they realised that by the time lockdown was over the papers could be expired. So an elopement it was.

Dinka arranged everything in less than 24 hours. Looking at the pictures now I can't believe that was 5 months ago. It was the 25th March. I blinked, lockdown happened (so much for 3 weeks) and now it's the middle of August. 2020 you are WILD!

Dinka rallied up the marriage officiant, witness, hairstylist, makeup artist and me (the photographer) the day before. And was literally Googling a coffee shop to go to to sign the papers (read: get married) in the car on the way, all while dismantling a bouquet of flowers that she got from a supermarket and turned into her bouquet. The original idea was to have a lunch at Babylonstoren. But because of the lockdown announcement the restaurants were all closed. But luckily we could get into the gardens for some elopement pictures.

In Dinka's words "The whole day was crazy! In the morning we were still taking passport photos for the marriage registration papers and before we went to the ceremony, one by one, we went into the Post Office to certify all ID copies. It was already very quiet on the streets – it felt like we were on a mission to save the world! We were constantly just laughing, because we couldn’t believe what was happening!”

It is one of the craziest, unreal, nerve wracking and happy days of my life this far that I will never forget. Sitting here now it feels like it was all a dream. I live for moments like these and can't believe I get to call doing this my job. I'm going to have some crazy stories to tell people in the old age home one day.

This was shot on location in my at-home studio (read: spare bedroom) in Wynberg. It's amazing what one can do when you have no other option than to utilize the space that you have. And I think this might be one of my favourite shoots to date. Liza is incredible to work with!

These portraits were shot as part of a video portrait for a campaign that I shot recently. The goal was to include interesting looking people from all around Africa to make up the campaign. A mutual friend had connected Patrick and I on social media and I knew that he would be the right look for this campaign. So after we got the video we needed we took a few pictures, because why not?!
