πŸ›‚πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Verification and Dignity for Refugees

The Department of Home Affairs, SAPS, refugee representatives, and the Southern Africa Refugee Forum are meeting to verify the papers of foreign nationals. This process is meant to clear disputes and ensure that those with valid documentation are recognized and protected.

βœ… Proper verification safeguards genuine refugees and asylum seekers from harassment.
βœ… It strengthens migration management while upholding human rights.
βœ… It reminds us that Africa’s future must be built on justice, dignity, and solidarity across borders.

A borderless Africa is not just about free movement it is about ensuring that every person, regardless of origin, is treated with fairness and humanity.

Nigeria has the 3rd largest economy in Africa it also ranks 31st in GDP per capita and 29th in HDI.

Economic size doesn't automatically equal prosperity or widespread human welfare anywhere in the world, and Africa is no different.

This chart shows the continent's 20 largest economies by nominal GDP then layers in GDP per capita and Human Development Index rankings to show what size actually delivers.

A few things stand out:

β€’ Algeria and Tunisia punch above their weight. Algeria ranks 4th by GDP, 3rd by HDI, 9th by GDP per capita. Tunisia is 15th by GDP, 5th by HDI, 12th by GDP per capita. They convert their economic heft into welfare better than most economies on the continent.

β€’ DRC is an outlier in the opposite direction. It's one of the world's most resource-rich territories, but has so far failed to convert its resource wealth into broad-based prosperity. It has Africa's 12th largest economy ($88B) and ranks 46th in GDP per capita ($800).

As the demographic boom deepens across Africa, the countries to watch aren't necessarily those with the largest economies.

They're the ones closing the gap between economic output and human outcomes.

for the update of Congolese who was executed at Ireland

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡©πŸ•ŠοΈ It is with deep sadness that we learn of the tragic death of Yves Sakila, a 35-year-old Congolese computer scientist who had been living in Ireland since 2004.

Yves reportedly died on May 16 in Dublin after being restrained by private security personnel following an alleged shoplifting incident. Videos circulating online showing several individuals pinning him face-down to the ground have raised serious concerns and questions about the level of force used.

Emergency services later arrived and attempted to resuscitate him before he was transported to hospital, where he sadly passed away.

Regardless of the circumstances, no one should lose their life in such a manner. A full, independent, and transparent investigation is necessary to establish the truth, ensure accountability, and bring justice to his family and loved ones.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the Congolese community in Ireland during this painful time. May truth, justice, and peace prevail.

Rest in peace, Yves Sakila πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’”

Reports indicate that Al-Ettifaq have improved their offer for Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng from €700K to €1.5M (Β±R31 million). πŸ’Ά
The Saudi club reportedly doubled their first bid, but the offer is still slightly below Mofokeng’s current market value of €1.6M. πŸ“ˆ
The big question now is:
Will β€œPresident Yama2K” leave the Buccaneers for Saudi Arabia, or will he wait for a European move? πŸ‘€βš«βšͺ
One thing is certain. Mofokeng is becoming one of the hottest young talents in African football. 🌍⭐

Former EFF Deputy President and now senior figure in the Mayibuye iAfrika movement, Floyd Shivhambu made his position clear:

β€œAll the concerns that they are raising are legitimate.”

Speaking about protests led by Ngizwe Mchunu and Marching March, Floyd said:

β€œWe will not join into the band of those who want to delegitimize and insult those who are saying that we have got a sitting crisis of undocumented and illegal immigration in South Africa.”

He says people should not simply dismiss the issue or insult those raising concerns.

Floyd then explained why he believes this issue matters.

β€œIt confuses planning. It confuses the allocation of resources.”

He expanded further:

β€œIt confuses responses as to just how many houses do you need to allocate, just how many informal settlements do you want to formalize, just how many jobs are you going to create for our people?”

According to Floyd, undocumented immigration creates difficulties when government plans housing, services and development.

But he then shifted attention somewhere else.

β€œThe private sector, business owners, are the primary beneficiaries of illegal immigration in South Africa.”

He says ordinary people often fight each other while businesses benefit.

Floyd claimed some employers hire undocumented workers because they are vulnerable.

He said:

β€œOn payday, they call police on them.”

Then he continued:

β€œOn payday, they remind them that remember, you're not here in South Africa legally.”

And when workers attempt to organize:

β€œWhen they try to form a union, they say, remember, you're not allowed to form a union.”

He further claimed this happens in:

β€œthe construction sector… the mining sector… the agricultural sector… during harvesting season… and the hospitality sector.”

Floyd ended with another direct appeal:

β€œIt will not help anyone to stand on the sidelines and insult people who are raising legitimate concerns.”

He says South Africans need to:

β€œsit down and talk as to just how do we resolve
