Size:1.3m x1m.
This painting is part of my solo 'Out of the Blue' Little did I realise that very profound events would take place BEFORE, DURING and AFTER this event. The BEFORE.. was when my dear mother passed away and I was hospitalized from a home invasion by an intruder. The During.. The gallery owner said my tattooed paintings wouldn't sell, but they were purchased by overseas buyers, then the one painting he didn't want to hang(but due to my persistence that it should be hanged) was also bought by an overseas buyer.
The AFTER.. I was hospitalized again due to a spider bite. So these paintings from my series remind me of.. When life throws you a curved ball, keep on keeping on, also just stay on your track. I believe these paintings are mixed with resilience, faith and paint and that's what they will always resonate.
This mindset came from the love and support that surrounds me.
So when you see one of these paintings you will feel the.. RESILIENCE and FAITH because of the LOVE.
Lovely things happening in the art world.
I have been invited to participate in a group exhibition with some fabulous artists

So with this portrait which I painted about x4 years ago was exhibited at a gallery, even though there was lots of human traffic, this painting didn't sell. I was quite glad that it didn't sell because I wanted to put more mystery into parts of it. About x2weeks after collecting it from the gallery I received a phone call from a lovely lady asking if my portrait had sold and if not she would love to purchase it. What really surprised me was when she came to pick up my painting I couldn't believe how similar her features were to the portrait! She said besides admiring the high standard of work and great colours and technique, she also said that when she first laid her eyes on the artwork she felt, calm and serene and that she hadn't felt like that for years and the only way to continue to feel that way is if she bought it. She also said she asked her husband if he could buy it for her and that she didn't normally ask him for things for herself, that's how badly she wanted it. Wow! This story inspires me to continue painting, I feel honoured
to be able to connect with people in a profound way, with something I adore doing!!
I'm hosting a really exciting x2day Portrait Workshop on the 22nd +23 July. Please join me. in Claremont. I will take you on an art journey of a life time. Limited seats are available.
Title: Looking Over You
Medium:Oil on Canvas.
What I have been told by many buyers who have bought my paintings that my art takes them to a place which feels like home. What they also mentioned was that my paintings look very different in different light scenarios so they notice new things constantly. This particular piece that I'm showing was purchased by a very dear man called Vernon, he feels this angel has a timelessness about it almost as if it was only painted yesterday eventhough he bought x15 years ago. I remember with great clarity when I painted this, a tremendous feeling of calmness came over me almost as if someone else from another world or dimension helped and guided me. I do go into alpha mode when I paint so I feel with this state, it gets transferred into my paintings.I also feel that paintings have a magnetic quality that chooses the buyer. I feel so blessed to be able to create artwork that enhances people's lives, minds, hearts and souls.
Day 12 Sharing a bit of my process with this portrait.
1.My first step was writing down my thoughts with a thin paint brush while listening to Johnny Clegg's amazing music.
2.Premixed my chosen colours on my pallette and roughly sketched the model's head and features and to also establish the composition.
3.Massed in the darks with one touch direct painting.
4.Scumbled in the mid tones.
5.Dripped the background in some of the foreground.
6.Added thick direct brushstrokes into the light areas. I worked from thin to thick paint and stood away from my canvas constantly.
Hope you enjoy.
Day7 .serran 4 Figure per month game plan.
I was brought up my my single mother in the 1960s, life was tough because Julia (my mom) was the soul breadwinner for x3 girls, 10,12 and a 15 year old. She had to hold down x3 jobs in order for us to survive, so us girls learnt very quickly to be independent, resilient, self reliant and adopt a 'Just get on with it' attitude. I wasn't an A grade student like my x2 sisters but there was one thing I was recognized for, I could draw and paint well. Little did I realize that this aptitude would be my blue print for my art career. I also sought solace with my art when tough days persisted in my childhood. I was also surrounded by very strong females to help me cope that's why I have a natural leaning towards painting females. I witnessed and felt Julia been strong, weak, vulnerable, angry, gentle, fearful, brave, confused, focused, depressed.... But still HOLDING THE FORT. All the above emotions are present in my paintings. From the rawness of the canvas showing to the gentle translucent layering to the more courageous direct brushstrokes. To be able to continue painting is MY HOLDING THE FORT. Making art for people who are open to experience beautiful powerful female energy. If my story resonates and you'd love to see more, hit me with 'I can't wait'.
Day4. .serran/4Figure per month game plan.
I have been invited to a group exhibition Carlou for the 2nd time for July this year and the curator mentioned that the theme is 'Dream like'. So I have chosen some pieces pertaining to this theme, some paintings were done x4 years ago and some that I have painted recently. What I have noticed is, my older pieces are still fresh and current so the word 'timeless' comes to mind.
What I have also realised is that I love painting portraits of females and flowers, so it got me thinking that females are like flowers, we are here to bloom and display the beautiful vibrant colours and textures of our personalities, like flowers we are not meant to be on this earth forever we are all but passing through and leaving our seeds for the next generation to grow and prosper.
