Waiting For Nelson

Waiting For Nelson This play places a magnifying glass on a topic that still dominates societal discourse in this day & age - the colour of the next person's skin.

The aura and significance of the year 1994 came with many promises - many of which haven't been fulfilled. WAITING FOR NELSON deals with the issue of race, which can be easily said to be one of the paramount issues in South Africa and one that can be argued to be the “meta-narrative” of many sub-narratives that have shaped how we as South Africans have, still and will treat one another. When we sp

eak about South Africa being a democracy and its people being free, what do we, or those in power actually mean? Rather than face the issues that have been staring us in the face and knocking at our front doors, we put on blinders and ear blocks, refusing to face these hard truths. WAITING FOR NELSON is not a lesson on the past nor does it want to be a story with a moral at the end. The show aims to create discourse and get its spectators to actively engage with the issues presented.
