11 Years of Vita Basadi β€” Celebrating the Women Who Carry Gauteng

On Saturday, 5 September 2026, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature hosts the 11th Annual Vita Basadi Awards at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand β€” honouring the women and girls of our province who lead, uplift and serve their communities, often quietly and without expecting anything in return.

This year's honourees were nominated by YOU, the public, across categories including the Young Dignitary Award, Community Heroine Award, The Guardian Award and more. Speaker Hon. Morakane Mosupyoe will also present the Lifetime Achievement Award and Speaker's Special Award on the day.

From JMPD's first female Acting Chief to the founder of Miss Wheelchair South Africa, Vita Basadi has spent over a decade putting extraordinary Gauteng women in the spotlight.

Who inspired you this year? Tell us in the comments πŸ‘‡

Day 17 of The Garden Route Tour: Tuesday, 14 July, at The Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia.

Some dishes are worth stopping the whole tour for. This is one of them.

At The Conservatory restaurant, Head Chef Daniel Blignaut walked us through the making of the hotel's most-loved dish β€” the iconic twice-baked Cheese SoufflΓ©, finished with a rich, cheesy gin sauce β€” step by step, ingredient by ingredient. We filmed the whole process so you can see exactly how it comes together (watch the video attached to this post).

And then we tasted it. OMG. It's every bit as good as its reputation.

We were hosted at The Cellars-Hohenort for two days as part of our 20-day, 4,500km Garden Route tour β€” a journey built around showcasing South African tourism, the ubuntu spirit of the people we've met along the way, and partnering with brands who want to help tell that story.

A heartfelt thank you to The Cellars-Hohenort, FIVESTAR PR's Janie van der Spuy, Joburg Style, our travel companion Makayla Emmerick, and General Manager Tanya Putter Johnson and her wonderful team for hosting us so generously.

If you're planning a trip to Cape Town, put The Conservatory on your list β€” and tell us in the comments which South African dish you think we should track down next.

Behind the opening hours of the Public Sector Leaders Summit 2026

On 18–19 August, government leaders, business and civil society partners gathered at the Indaba Hotel, Spa & Conference Centre in Fourways for the Public Sector Leaders Summit 2026 β€” themed "The Delivery Playbook," and framed around one big question: can South Africa's public institutions be rebuilt into world-class ones ahead of the November municipal elections?

Day 1 opened under the theme "Turning Policy Into Performance, Promises Into Progress," with Dr Mathews Phosa delivering a keynote on ethical leadership, Deputy Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa unpacking mobility as a public service, and Eskom Hld SOC Ltd CTIO Len de Villiers joining a panel on fixing service delivery in real time.

Joburg Times sat down with Topco Media's Emlyn Dunn to find out what those first few hours set out to achieve:

What would it take for you to trust that a public institution near you could turn around? Tell us in the comments

There's a reason people describe The Bank as an ecosystem rather than an office.

Walk in and you're greeted by the lobby for Hyde Johannesburg Rosebank and Proud Mary SA before you even reach the Workshop17 floors β€” meaning your work day, your dinner with colleagues and your rest are all within a few steps of each other. That's what the WORK, PLAY, PAUSE model actually looks like day to day.

Inside, it's calm, soft-toned and intentionally designed so the space feels warm rather than laboured. There are call booths and pods for focused work, hot desking for flexibility, cafΓ©s for a bit of buzz, and video conference rooms for when you need to host a meeting without leaving the building.

Prefer a quieter, more scenic setting? Firestation looks out over the Johannesburg skyline, with jacaranda trees coming into bloom every October.

Both spaces are built to be easy to navigate and welcoming to everyone β€” from lift access and clear signage to ablution facilities β€” and both are close to schools, public transport and just a minute from the Gautrain, right in the middle of Johannesburg.

Come see which space suits you. Send us a message or drop by Rosebank to book your tour of The Bank or Firestation.

Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has put a number on its community commitment: 150kW.

The 150kW Legacy Fund, announced this week, borrows from one of the brand's most recognisable performance figures and redirects it toward charities, communities and individuals who need support to reach their next chapter. It's a first for MMSA, and the company has signalled it intends to grow the number of causes backed each year rather than treat this as a once-off.

What makes the approach worth watching is the distribution model. Instead of an internal panel deciding who qualifies, MMSA has handed the search to its Friends of the Mitsu Family. Ox Nche and Trevor Ntando Nyakane are helping identify the first beneficiaries, and the fund launches formally alongside Khuli Chana's docu-series on South Africans who have reinvented themselves.

"Power means nothing if it isn't shared," says Lerato Nonyane, General Manager: Product & Marketing at MMSA.

Nomination details follow in the coming weeks. Full story:
