In the spring of 2002 the small artist studio space relocated to the oldest building in Downtown Sawyer and became the regions first resource for art, known as the Scarlet Macaw Community Art Center. Fulfilling its mission statement, the SMCAC fostered artistic exploration for students of all ages and abilities.Though it's years of service the SMCAC proudly displayed over 85 themed and individual
artist exhibitions, provided funding for the River Valley Elementary, Middle and High School Art Department Programs and given workshop scholarships to area high school students. The SMCAC has been proud to have been a part of presenting events and activities outside of the arts as well, and has taken great pride in our outstanding history of supporting members of our nations armed forces. on July 5, 2015, after 21 years of dedicated service, the community art center closed its physical doors. Embarking on a new adventure the Scarlet Macaw now features the art and musings of its original creator and a small handful of renowned and talented artists.
