As we near Fall 2020 the Praire State Players are sad to announce that we will not be putting on a production due to Covid-19.
We would like to thank our Players’ friends, family, and fans for their continued support. We hope to see everyone in Spring 2021, if it is safe to do so.
Stay Safe, and Healthy! We hope to see you all next year.

The Prairie State Foundation, that gives scholarships for students, is holding a black tie (tuxedo) optional Gala to celebrate its anniversary on the main campus. They have asked if any Prairie State Player would volunteer to work the spotlight for them for the show. Whoever did it would get a free meal (likely to be good I think since this is for leaders of the community) and there's music and a party afterwards you are invited to. It is on October 20th at 6:00 pm. Let Dr. V know if you are interested in doing it!

20/08/2019

AUDITIONS are September 10th at 2:30 and September 11th at 2:30 (choose one) with callbacks on September 12th at the auditorium. For MISS HOLMES! This play debuted at Chicago's Lifeline Theater in 2016 to rave reviews. The Chicago Tribune called it "Cunning and Brilliant." It's an adventure mystery in which we ask the question... what if Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson had both been women? Could they have still managed to solve all those mysteries?! This is a big cast play needing between 9 and 15 really great actors of all ages, races, and genders, so get all your friends together ... BECAUSE THE GAME'S AFOOT!

Character Descriptions for The Gravedigger: A Frankenstein Story

The author has granted us permission to cast all roles as either male or female. Nadya will probably be female because she was once a mother and gave birth, but who knows once auditions start, what will happen.

Dr. Victor(ia) Frankenstein: Driven, ambitious, brilliant. He created life from dead bodies. But now the creature he created has murdered his brother, best friend, and wife. He is obsessed with revenge.

Anton -- The creature created by Frankenstein. After a life of loneliness and vengeance, he/she has come to the cemetery where his/her body parts were first buried to die. He/she has a good heart, but his/her emotions are out of control like a child. His/her appearance is terrifying, and this actor will need to find movements and vocals that are strange and like co**ses sewn together. But the audience also must grow to like Anton as he/she learns how to be a decent human.

Kurt -- The Gravedigger. He/she is gruff and lives alone tending to the cemetery. He/she has secrets in his/her past that have caused him/her to hide from the world. He/she was once a priest, but has lost his/her faith in God.

Nadya -- A Roma (popular though offensive word for this is gypsy) who was abandoned by her people because she fell in love with someone not from her tribe. The father of her son, who was abusive, also abandoned her with her son. The son died because she was alone and poor. Now Nadya uses her considerable charm and wit to stay alive. She reads fortunes and sometimes prostitutes herself.

Kevin has been performing with the Prairie State Players since 2012, and has even helped write a show that the Players have put on, 2015's spring production Once Upon A Crossover. His big dream is to act in Hollywood and turn down all interviews due to social anxiety. Until then, he's trying to build up his YouTube channel where he talks about nerdy stuff!

Actor, writer, director, Julian Hall has a true knack for the art of theatre. Debuting in his self-written play, "Sorry Johnny" which he directed himself in 2011, he continued to venture into other community and professional acts such as "Medea" in 2013, "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Play On" in 2015, followed by musical "Man of La Mancha" and Amorous Ambassador in 2016 which were all staged at South Suburban College. He reprises his role as Harry in the Amorous Ambassador at Prairie State College this spring and currently continues his career of both acting and music.

She started with The Beecher Part Time Players in their production of "A Christmas Carol" where she fell in love with being on stage and has been pursuing theater ever since. She has always taken an interest in the Prairie State Players, but only auditioned for her first show with the group last semester, where she was given the gracious opportunity to play John Merrick in "The Elephant Man". She is looking forward to returning to the Prairie State Players stage this spring semester in the Amorous Ambassador as Marian Murdock and hopes to see you all there.
