A public speaking club dedicated to improving all-round communication skills as a speaker and a leader, in a supportive environment. You are welcome to join us!
Terrified of speaking in public? Want to take your communications to the next level? Leiden Toastmasters is the place to be! Leiden Toastmasters club offers you the opportunity to practice public speaking in a supportive, fun and encouraging environment. Through regular practice, you will not only learn to handle natural nervousness and fear, but you will also develop the presentation skills necessary to confidently communicate your message anywhere and everywhere. You will become a more competent speaker at work, school, in your hobbies or any other important aspect of your life. The Toastmasters approach consists of three main elements: public speaking, leadership development and evaluation. As a member, you will give speeches that help you explore different aspects of good presentation skills. At each meeting, time is allotted to practice impromptu speaking as well. Leadership skills are encouraged through rotating meeting- and club-leadership roles. Finally, members learn how to effectively give and receive feedback. Toastmasters International started in the US in 1924 with the goal of helping people become more comfortable in front of an audience. Since then, thousands of club chapters have been founded around the world, both community-based and corporate-sponsored clubs. The first Toastmasters club in the Netherlands started in 2002, and today there are 17 clubs in cities and companies across the country. Our meetings are on every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at Buddha's restaurant in Leiden. Start: 20:00 sharp Mail us at [email protected]

During our Club Contest on february 12th, we had a total of 3 prepared contest speeches and 7 evaluations. For the English Evaluation Contest, Kristina was so kind to come all the way from The Hague Toastmasters to give the key speech. She is a former member of Leiden Toastmasters, a better start as a Toastmaster isn't possible, of course. ;)
Many thanks to everyone that put in time and effort; the contestants, evaluation key speakers, judges, timer, counters and chief judge. Without all your active partication it's not possible.

Theme of last meeting was "The law of attraction" which is all about energy. If you are negative, you will attract negative situations. If you are positive and do positive you will attract positive things. It's not what you say, it's about who you are inside. You can try yourself by thinking you will have a nearby parkingspot and truly believe this. By think and act not to forget you can manifest many things even to be a great speaker. Looking forward to your examples.
To feel confident when you need to present there are certain tricks for your mind and one of them is wear your favorite piece of clothing that makes you feel great.
Our new member HendrikJan did his first speech called "The Icebreaker" . The first speech to break the ice of the journey to become a confident speaker. In our club we have chosen as gift for the icebreaker speech the toastmasters notebook. He received this from our Boardmember Arjan after his speech.
HendrikJan congratulations and we are looking forward to your next speeches.
Leiden Toastmasters Club wishes you a happy 2019 and a lot of speech opportunities.
Every day is a day to practice public speaking.
When you join Toastmasters you don`t only learn speaking skills but you will have fun as well such as the yearly christmas party at Jaap and Celestes home. We are a real toastmaster family. Last saturday a lot of members came together and played a present game, a lot of fun with the famous musical chairs and as highlight of the evening a real workshop to make a christmass tree out of balloons by our own balloonartist and member and owner of the Ballonschool . Thank you Jaap and Celeste for your hospitality and Olena for organizing and all the members who made the wonderfull evening.
Almost 2018 is behind us and tuesday we had our last meeting this year. It was a special evening as it was almost canceled as not many people had planned to come.
This was a challenge for the toastmaster role of that evening. She finally managed to get all roles filled. Great job and one of the roles was the table topic master role. Which means speak unprepared. Sandra did and was very well prepared for her role as she created all ballon creations in the theme of the evening with a question. Last but not least the grammarian choose the word reflection which is always a nice thing to do at year end. Reflect back to the previous year to see which moments you experienced, beautifull or sad. Did you achieved your goals. In one word it was great evening again even with such a small group. Let start in the new year with all members being available.

Welcome, you arrived to the Leiden Toastmasters Club homepage. Probably, this is because Leiden is the closest location from your home, work or educational institution. You made a good choice, as Leiden is a beautiful city with its canals and long history.
Maybe you are a student, as Leiden is the city where also our King Willem Alexander spent his University time. Maybe you come from abroad to work for a couple of years in a different country. In any case, you probably want to explore something new, learn, grow yourself and possibly also practice your English language skills. Our club consists of similar profiles, while we have native Dutch speaking members too.
Whatever your background or your age is, you are always welcome to explore, express and engage with our existing members. We have so many different profiles coming from different countries, speaking all kinds of languages, having diverse backgrounds: from personal coaches to programmers, and from business people to academics and artists. This makes our club culture truly dynamic and we are sure you will fit in as well.
Our club creates leaders and speakers, no matter if you are an introvert or an extrovert. Everyone can learn and develop such skills. Our members and alumni range from beginners giving their first public speech, up to a TEDx award-winning keynote speakers. What they all have in common is that they have a dream and they work towards achieving that dream – and so can you. The more you get surrounded with people with the same ambition and passion, the more likely the dream becomes reality.
Our club is happy to support you and therefore, we would like to warmly welcome you as a guest to let you experience what Toastmasters is about and answer any questions you may have. If you feel as comfortable and excited as our previous guests, we would love you to become a member after first three visits.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
