To promote and Develop the Corowa Woodcrafters Club
To pass on the knowledge and craftsmanship of the club to the local region
To provide social and community activities to the people of the local region
Corowa Woodcrafters Inc. With more members joining the club, it was decided to approach the Corowa High School for the use of the School's Woodwork Classroom. This allowed members access to use t
he woodworking machinery at the High School that they do not own or have access to. We rose to 18 members at one stage and we are actively seeking new members to join the club. We hope that with the establishment of a permanent location for meetings, workshop and timber storage facilities, membership will grow once again and we have plans to sponsor the establishment of a Men's Shed group in Corowa with our facilities being shared. In April 2014 we acquired a lease for the property of the old Essential Energy Workshop facilities in Tower Street Corowa to use for the club. We are busy cleaning and setting up the facilities for the use of club members and to make use of the 4 Buildings and 2 sheds. Club members regularly participate in demonstrations and displays at local events, including the Corowa Show, the Corowa Festival of Fun for Kids, Rutherglen Winery Walkabout to name a few. We are currently doing work repairing, repainting & refurbishing of 24 children's seats for the Corowa Public School. The club has also made and donated 2 Workbenches to the Howlong Men's Shed Group, the Howlong Community learning Centre and Howlong Playgroup - sets of Tables & Chairs and made Possum nesting boxes for Corowa Landcare Group. We have also donated numerous woodcraft items as prizes for the Corowa Relay for Life, Corowa Historical Vehicle & Machinery Club and more. In 2007 the club introduced the sponsorship of the "Woodwork Student of the Year" prize to the value of $100.00 annually to the Corowa High School for year 10 students of the woodwork classes as chosen by their teacher. The prize given is usually an electrical tool and is presented to the student by the Club's President at the School Presentation Day. Currently the club is also actively engaged in the process of erecting a building of its own for the purpose of holding meetings, demonstrations and to allow members to have access to workshop facilities and a to have a social gathering place where they can meet and just have a cuppa and a talk. The Club lease some land next to the Corowa Airport, in association with the Corowa Historical Vehicle & Machinery Club. We are currently in the process of raising funds to erect the Workshop Building and a Timber Storage facility and the laying out of the area for future use. We have had the workshop shed donated to us, but need the funds for the concrete foundations and connection to power supply, water, etc.
