👋Hello all, after a kind of hiatus year (maybe you have noticed less movement in this Instagram account this 2023), I am getting back to practice!✨

🔵Recently, I've been working on a new line of work with remnants of my grandmother's handmade textile work. While emptying my grandparent's house, my mom gave me a couple of boxes with scraps of these fascinating and delicate pieces of domestic work that required excellent skills, shared by many generations of women. I remembered that Anna Atkins had at least one cyanotype of laces and ribbons, probably an experiment with the kind of material women had in hand those days. 🧵

A wise woman told me that sometimes she felt like a poppy, apparently fragile but resisting all the blows of the wind from the edge of the road, and yet if you pluck it from its place, it withers quickly. I would add that poppies also embellish the path and look after us from a distance, watching us walking ahead and sometimes tripping, as mothers do. 💙

✨𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐀𝗪𝐀𝐘✨ To welcome 2023, and as the declaration of an intention, I will give this notebook stitched by hand with a cover of a Cyannatype of a 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭.

✨Roots are where I aim to go this upcoming year: back to walking to make sense of this world and my surroundings, back to stitch the city with my feet, back to re-walk some meaningful paths (daily paths, emigration ways, old roads...), and back to bear witness of it through cyanotype of specimens collected on the way.⁣⁣

🔵’Moll grec’ (limited edition of 5)

➰Cyanotype photogram of an algae collected near the Hellenistic breakwater in L'Escala (2021).

The cyanotype is a fantastic 19th-century photographic printing process: it is pretty simple, elegant, and magic (camera-less, no ink involved!). But, above all, it is always blue, deep blue.

🟡In 2022, Cyannatypes will collaborate with 🇺🇦This organization helps affected children and families from Ukraine, providing emergency psychological support and assisting in the evacuation process.

💙In 2010, I had the chance to visit Ukraine with , a talented illustrator that very generously showed us her country. She inspired me to support this organization that works on the ground and in the frontline assisting the most vulnerable to cope with war trauma.

My story

I am from Barcelona, but life has given me the chance to also live in Bologna, Paris, and more recently in Los Angeles, where I take advantage of the sun to create all these cyanotypes.

I've been surrounded by cameras since I was 7 years old, but this 19th-century photographic monochrome printing process totally caught me for its simplicity and blue elegance.

Cyanotype is the medium that better fit my need to document my walks, my being in the world, my memories. An act of resistance against the present use and overdose of images that we produce and consume wildly.

After having been encouraged by family and friends, I finally opened an Etsy shop in April 2018 to sell the prints: www.cyannatypes.net or www.etsy.com/shop/cyannatypes.
