Losing my dad as a teenager gave me a lot to write songs about, and in the decades since I continue to get plenty of inspiration.
Somewhere along the way, especially the past few years, I got a little too focused on the business side of music and lost sight of the part that matters most to me: writing songs.
One thing that kept coming back to me in Nashville was that I’m a songwriter.
So I’m making it a priority to get back to writing, pulling together the thousands of notes entries a have with song or lyric ideas, finishing songs, and creating art. I’m proud of how much I’ve grown as a singer and guitar player, but I want to remember that underneath all of it, I’m a songwriter first. The timing couldn’t be better as we’ve got a new honk album in the works, lol
