In May the CreArt Oulu brought the European Month of Creativity to life with a vibrant program of art events and exhibitions across the city.

The 125-year-old Market Hall of Culture was celebrated over three weekends, featuring events and a joint exhibition by Marianne Kauppila and Henri. At Galleria MABD, visitors experienced powerful surrealist drawings by Ukrainian artist Veronika Cherednychenko, while Theodor Park hosted the playful Gym Ball Opera by the Hilma Collective.

At Valve Café, the What I Brought With Me pop-up exhibition shared moving stories from an international creative community about meaningful objects and memories of home. Visitors also had the chance to hear Persian instruments santur and tar performed live. Photographer Arina Lykova captured portraits of all the storytellers — the works will be presented in a separate exhibition later this year.

CreArt Oulu also supported Oulu-born artist Jaakko Myyri in completing his work Crow’s Feet for the White Nights exhibition at Aalto Siilo, which is still on view for a few more days, until Sunday 14 June.

Hei sinä oululainen taiteilija!
Vaikka asutkin Euroopan kulttuuripääkaupungissa, on hyvä käydä myös muualla inspiroitumassa! Luova Eurooppa projektin CreArtin yksi keskeinen tavoite on tarjota kaupunkimme taiteilijoille myös portteja kansainvälistymiseen eli työmahdollisuuksia upeissa kumppanikaupungeissa pitkin Eurooppaa. Tällä kertaa tarjolla olisi mahdollisuuksia lähteä kesällä tai syksyllä Latviaan, Ranskaan tai Italiaan.

CreArt 3.0 -hankkeen viimeinen paikallinen ohjelmahaku on auki! CreArt kokoaa syksylle 2026 visuaalisen taiteen ohjelmaa, joka valloittaa vaihtoehtoisia kaupunkitiloja taiteen keinoin. Ohjelmahaku on suunnattu oululaisille visuaalisen alan ammattimaisesti toimiville taiteilijoille ja työryhmille, taide- ja kulttuuriorganisaatioille, taidealan kouluttajille sekä yksityisille taidegallerioille.

CreArt 3.0 -hanke päättyy tämän vuoden lopussa, m***a vielä syksyllä se voi olla mukana järjestämässä tapahtumia, näyttelyjä, workshopeja ja seminaareja aikavälillä elokuu-lokakuu 2026. Haemme ohjelmaehdotuksia ensisijaisesti julkisen taiteen ja katutaiteen Artists in Public Spaces -ohjelmaan syyskuulle. Lisäksi olemme kiinnostuneita koulutuksellisen sisällön yhteistyöstä, jolla voidaan edistää visuaalisen alan taiteilijoiden työmahdollisuuksia. The final local open call of the CreArt 3.0 project is now open!
CreArt is compiling a visual arts program for autumn 2026 that will bring alternative urban spaces to life through artistic interventions. The open call is aimed at Oulu-based professional visual artists and working groups, art and cultural organisations, visual arts educators, and private art galleries.

The CreArt 3.0 project will conclude at the end of this year, but during the autumn it will still co-organise events, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars between August and October 2026. We are primarily looking for programme proposals for the Artists in Public Spaces programme, focusing on public art and street art, for September.

Submit your proposal via the form available through the link the by Monday, 22 June.

Tervetuloa viettämään White Nights -näyttelyn avajaisia huomenna keskiviikkona klo 18 alkaen AaltoSiilolle (Alvar Aallon katu 5)!

Näyttelyn taiteilijat ovat tavattavissa avajaisissa. Näyttely on avoinna 4.-14.6. klo 12-18 päivittäin!

🎉 White Nights Exhibition Opening 🎉

Welcome to the opening of the White Nights exhibition tomorrow, Wednesday, starting at 18 at AaltoSiilo (Alvar Aallon katu 5)!

Artists will be present and available to meet during the opening event. The exhibition will be open daily from June 4–14, at 12-18.

The photos are from an artist talk with Jaakko Myyri, where participants had the opportunity to learn more about the creative process behind the artwork Crow’s Feet.

Jaakko Myyrin teos ”Crow’s Feet” edistyy! Tässä hän työstää Siilon hakesuppilon osaa, jolle tehdään ruosteenpoisto hiekkapuhaltamalla.

Jaakko on kertomassa AaltoSiilolla työskentelystään lauantaina 23.5. klo 11, tervetuloa tutustumaan valmistuvaan teokseen ja itse taiteilijaan!
