What a terrific Painting on the Prairie 2025 we had! Artists came from near and far: SD, MN, WI, IA, NE, AZ, FLA, TX, and MO!
We thank the many artists for joining us and sharing their passion for art. Each contributed to making this event what it is intended to be: an opportunity to connect (or reconnect) with our creative, art-ful spirits; to either learn from or mentor and to generally encourage each other as we all move along our day-to -day lives.
It is too cliche to say but….all are winners! However, votes were taken and ballots were counted. The following received prizes and awards:
Youth Drawing : The names of wet sale participating youth aged 17 or under were placed in a basket and a name was drawn: Ellie Lancaster of De Smet Congratulations Ellie!
Kiara Hofer won the vote for her “Wildflowers” Quick Draw and The People’s Choice award for “Horses Midday”. The Artists voted and chose Elazar Evangelista of Wessington SD for her beautiful piece entitled “When Heaven Touches Earth”.
Each year the HD Society Board selects the recipient of the prestigious Harvey Dunn Award choosing someone who exemplifies the mission of the organization: “ to commemorate & celebrate the prairie art of Harvey Dunn, to provide encouragement for the arts, and to build appreciation for the culture on the prairie”. This year that honor was bestowed on Christine May of Burke SD.
