This baby is heading off to my longarm quilter today ! How should I have her quilt it for me…? 🤔
This is my new pattern called Gigi’s Quilt. It comes with instructions for 5 size options and is perfect for confident beginners! Visit my Etsy shop for details. Link in bio.
The motif in my Sagebrush print in Feels Like Home is perfect for fussy cutting 3” squares. Just sayin’!
I couldn’t resist. A little more Churn Dash, a whole lotta grandma. Like, I’m pretty sure that red striped fabric was hers. On my last post I shared the inspiration behind my new pattern, Gigi’s Quilt. I switched up a traditional Churn Dash block that my grandma used in one of her quilts. This color placement maybe resembles her quilt a little more and I’m in love.
The inspiration behind my new pattern, Gigi’s Quilt…My grandmother had a Churn Dash quilt that I loved (swipe to see). I loved the reds and blues with a touch of yellow. I loved the Baptist Fan hand quilting. I loved the use of a classic block and the fun little “mistakes” she let be (or added 🤷🏻♀️). She said every quilt had to have a mistake and it was fun trying to find them when we visited her house where lots of quilts were on display.
So Gigi’s Quilt is an homage to her and her Churn Dash quilt. My blocks are bigger with added 9-Patches inside and the color placement is a little different as I wanted to put my own spin on it. I guess the overall effect is quite different but that’s the beauty of quilting - with a couple of small changes to a block you can have a completely new design!
Maybe I need to make my block in her colors and with her color placement (keeping the little 9-patches) and see if it is a little more similar. *As she heads to her sewing room…
Happy Friday friends!
❤️ Amber
Introducing Gigi’s Quilt!! I designed this quilt several months ago and immediately shared the free block pattern with my newsletter subscribers. Well today the complete quilt pattern is FINALLY available in my Etsy shop. It comes with instructions for FIVE quilt sizes and I’m envisioning it in all the color ways. I’d love to hear what you think of this design! What color way would YOU do?
A little snippet of my new pattern, Gigi’s Quilt. I was inspired by a quilt of my grandmother’s. It was a Monkey Wrench quilt but I put my own spin on it! The PDF pattern is now in my shop. The paper pattern will be available any day!
Slowly, behind the scenes, I have been working on the pattern for ✨Gigi’s Quilt✨. Some of you may remember that about 6 months ago I offered the free block pattern to my newsletter subscribers. Well today the complete quilt pattern (with 5 size options) is available in my Etsy shop! I’ll be sharing more photos soon!!
2-color quilts: yay or nay? I love them and want more of them! So classic and vintagy at the same time. This is my new Welcome Wreath pattern. The original (the colorful version) calls for fat-eighths or fat-quarters. But if you want to make a 2-color version, you can visit my blog www.gigisthimble.com for those fabric requirements. Also, I have a video tutorial on the YouTube channel for how to make this block. Check it out for all my tips and tricks for getting nice points. All links are in my linktree in my bio. Happy Monday friends!
All of my blocks are done for my scrappy United quilt! 50 flag blocks, 5 star blocks, and 1 heart block! I’ve been cutting low volume strips for the sashing so I’m excited to start putting it together!
Happy 4th of July! I’m thankful to be an American and for the freedoms and blessings I enjoy here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. Thankful to those who gave their all to protect those freedoms too. I love the red, white and blue!!!
Have you seen the new quilt pattern called Lakehouse Plaid by Amy Mogren of ? I LOVE it! It’s so up my alley and so cute in my fabric collection, Feels Like Home! It comes with instructions for 3 different quilt sizes. You should check it out and give Amy a follow if you’re not already. I am such a fan of her work!

One quilt that is on my radar to remake is this one using my Flower Farm pattern. I’m thinking lighter and definitely involving lots of gingham! It’s fat eighth and fat quarter friendly and comes with instructions for 5 different quilt sizes. PDF and paper patterns are available in my shop. I’d love to see your version!
Happy quilting!
Amber
Have you paper-pieced before? My new pattern, Feels Like Home has 13 house blocks, each one with a paper-pieced roof (everything else is traditionally pieced). There are only 5 (good-sized) pieces in each roof unit so they’re totally doable! Plus, I have a video tutorial on the YouTube channel that will show you how to make the whole block. If you’ve been wanting to learn how to paper-piece, I hope you’ll join me for the Feels Like Home Quilt-Along starting August 7th. Visit www.gigisthimble.com for all the details. I’ll link to the video in stories.
Kits for the cover quilt are available . Fabrics are from my new fabric line, Feels like Home.
Ahhh, two color quilts. There’s something just so vintagy about them. I think this is a fun pattern for just 2 colors (even though it’s written for fat eighths and fat quarters) because it’s an intricate enough design to really make it special. Love it both ways though. This is one of my new patterns called Welcome Wreath. Skill level = confident beginner. PDF and paper patterns are in my Etsy shop.
Time to get this baby bound! I have 2 quilts that need to be bound and I’m trying to get them done before I get 3 back from my quilter. The struggle is real! It’s hard for me to sit down and hand stitch binding down these days. What about you? What parts of quilting do you procrastinate, if any?
The original Scrap Jar Stars quilt! I designed this back in 2012 and it has been a favorite pattern for so many of you! A great scrap buster project. The pattern comes with instructions for 4 different quilt sizes and is fat quarter (or scrap jar) friendly. PDF and paper patterns are available in my shop.
Another batch of 3” blocks for the . That puts me at 264/418 for the layout I’m doing. Thanks Taryn for hosting this quilt along!
I got a few blocks done for my next Pineapple quilt, the one I’m making with alternating dark/light color placement! Can you see the secondary pattern emerging? You may need to squint your eyes…
I’m foundation paper piecing them and have the oversized papers available in my Etsy shop. Link in profile. These are such a great way to use up scraps!
Some favorite fabrics from my stash made up this Family Ties quilt (a free pattern I designed for the blog). It’s a 10” and 5” square friendly pattern; perfect for beginners! I’m loving the blue, brown and purple combo right now! What’s YOUR favorite color combo?
Random question for you…what is your favorite type of quilt block? Star, flying geese, snowball, heart, house, log cabin, chain, etc.? Let me know in the comments!
Some easy strip piecing makes this Flying Geese quilt come together pretty quickly. It’s called Skipper and comes with instructions for 4 quilt sizes. Made this for my son a few years ago but it’s cute in any colorway.
PDF and paper patterns are available in my Etsy shop. Link in profile.
Throw back to that one time I made a flag quilt with big star blocks and called it Glory. That was fun. I’ll link to the tutorial in stories or visit my blog at http://www.gigisthimble.com/2022/08/glory-quilt.html.

I started my third pineapple quilt a few weeks ago and got thinking…I should do something a little different this time. So last night I mocked up what it would look like if I alternated the bright fabrics in the corners and the sides. I like the secondary design it makes so that’s what I’m going to do! I foundation paper piece my blocks and have packages of oversized papers available in my Etsy shop.
This is my go-to baby quilt pattern. It’s called Big Baby and it’s a big block version of my Scrap Jar Stars pattern! It’s a great pattern for beginner quilters or just when you need a quick weekend project. I’ve made quite a few of these! PDF and paper patterns are available in my shop!
You really can’t get much easier than this pattern right here! Lulu is based off of an antique quilt I once saw. She’s perfect for 2-1/2” strips and comes with instructions for 2 quilt sizes.
Just looking through my tagged photos, admiring all of the Sweet Kisses quilts! These are just a few. So beautiful and a great scrap buster pattern! I love when you guys tag me and use the hashtag so I can see your Gigi’s Thimble makes!

Many of you sent me flags for this special quilt called United. It means so much to me and reminds me of my Instagram friends from all over the country! You come from different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, political views, etc. But its design and name symbolize that we have more in common than we think. Kindness, love and respect (despite our differences) is what it’s all about.
🇺🇸Pattern: United by me
