Sofar Sounds offers artists and music fans the unique opportunity to perform and experience intimate gigs in packed living rooms regularly. The movement is going global with shows happening in many cities worldwide from New York to Brazil, Paris to China and now New Zealand (over 86 cities in 37 countries)! Sofar Sounds started in 2009, in a tiny North London flat. Frustrated by of the traditional live music experience, we hosted three young artists who played to a carefully selected audience of true music lovers. And after that show, those music lovers went and told their friends...

We are now the world’s largest live music discovery community; curating secret, intimate gigs in unique spaces all around the world. Bringing the magic back to live music. Flaws came to Sofar Sounds Wellington with the funk, the energy, the big personality… and lyrics that kept us smiling. 💛

Tight musicianship, big stage presence and lyrics that clearly don't believe in taking themselves too seriously. They were a pretty perfect fit for Sofar, and we loved watching them win over the crowd. 🎶

Huge thanks to Jiri for capturing some of the magic on video!

And if you missed them (or if you were there and liked them very, very much), you can catch Major Flaws at their gig next week, where they'll be saying goodbye (for now!) to their drummer before he heads off travelling for a year. 🥁✈️

Go see them while you can, and help give Giacomo the send-off he deserves!

We were so lucky to have Sister Madly perform for us at Sofar Sounds Wellington last week! 💛

A not-too-serious, post-pop-punk-skiffle-acoustic-part-time band of old and new friends, brought together by Scott Pilgrim to celebrate 20 years in Aotearoa.

A pretty unique combination and definitely not something you hear every day! 🎶

We loved having them at Sofar and getting to share their wonderfully quirky sound with our Wellington crowd.

🎃 THE SPOOKIEST SOFAR OF THE YEAR IS COMING 🎃

On 27 October, we’re taking over a secret spot on Oriental Terrace for a special Halloween Sofar Sounds night. 👻

Expect an intimate night of live music, a suitably spooky atmosphere, and a few surprises along the way.

And yes, costumes are very much encouraged. 🧛‍♀️🧟‍♂️👹

🏆 We’ll even be giving out a prize for the best costume, so you may want to put some thought into it…

As always with Sofar, the full details stay secret until closer to the night. You just need to show up, settle in, and let us take care of the rest. 🎶

Spring has officially arrived, and we couldn’t think of a better way to welcome the new season! 🌸

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the Equinox, the longer days ahead, and, of course, some seriously good live music. 💛

And a massive thank you to the magnificent artists who helped us shake winter off in style. 🎶

What a magical night it was! ✨

A breathtaking venue with stunning views over the harbour perfectly complemented the three artists who made the night so memorable: Nikita 雅涵 Tu-Bryant, March of the Kororā, and Dani— it was such a pleasure to have you re-launch Sofar Wellington! 🎵

A special mention goes to superstar Andrew Baird, our fantastic MC, who guided us through the night with enthusiasm and warmth. 🎤

A huge thank you also goes to our behind-the-scenes heroes: our wonderful audio engineer Joel Manu Cosgrove, incredibly talented photographer Vince Cabrera, and our unstoppable volunteers Diego Clavijo and Catherine. ⭐

And last but definitely not least: YOU! The incredible community that supports arts and music in Wellington, and is always first in line to experience something different, special, and new. 🫂
