Bringing the extraordinary imaginations of kids into the classroom and onto the stage!

21/10/2026

Get to know the talented artists who will take the stage in our upcoming performance. Today, meet Dawry!

Q: What are you most excited about for this show?
A: I am excited that we get to be in space with hopefully a new audience and a show representing my background.

Q: What is something you do to get ready to perform?
A: I do jumping jacks and try to do the whole show in my head in under one minute.

Q: What is your favorite line, character, or story from a Whoopensocker show?
A: My favorite story from a Whoop show has to be the Harrison Ford story! It’s a classic.

Don’t miss Dawry and the rest of the Whoopensocker crew for a whole lot of wacky, wild fun!

As we prepare for our first performance of the season, get to know our show’s co-director, Erica!

In short, Erica’s the "Big Idea" behind turning kids’ imaginations into live theatre. Artist, professor, podcast host, defeated Pirate – she truly does it all.

As the Mayor of Whoopensocker City, Erica would happily make arts-based learning the law of the land well beyond City limits. “I love a chance to bring our work with MMSD students to new audiences,” she shares. “The Center for Black Excellence and Culture allows us to celebrate the power of students’ voices in a beautiful, professional performance space and to offer families a chance to see their kids’ genius live on stage!”
