Hi, I’m Sue — owner, artist, and lifelong maker of all things fun, messy, and full of imagination. While ADK Creative Works officially took shape in the fall of 2017, my creative journey started decades earlier — about 30 years of teaching, and even longer of making! I gre

w up in a time when *“screen time”* meant staring out the window daydreaming. We had only three TV channels (and half the time the rabbit ears didn’t work!), so we filled our days with games, crafts, and adventures outside. My mom taught me to sew, bake, and whip up gifts from scratch, while my dad taught me the art of fixing anything. We raised goats and chickens, grew flowers and veggies, and found joy in creating with what we had. That childhood of resourcefulness, curiosity, and play is the heartbeat of what I do today.

**Here’s my philosophy:**
Creativity is like a muscle — the more you use it, the stronger it gets! In my classes, we dive into *process art* — the messy, playful, “what happens if I try this?” kind of art. The end result is just the cherry on top; the real magic is in the making. ADK Creative Works is always evolving, offering programs for all ages — whether you’re 5 or 95. Step into the studio and leave your screens at the door. Here, you can laugh, chat, listen to music, try new things, make glorious mistakes, and get a little paint under your fingernails. It’s all about exploring, learning, and letting your creativity run wild.

I love playing with pictures - these blossoms are all pictures I took yesterday. Including Chippy, who posed for me, and the beautiful bumblebees! The peonies are getting ready to bloom, along with the roses. The bridal wreath bush was huuuge. A good year for them. And the woodpecker has done a job on the maple tree. Missing my dad, but my youngest brother lives in the old homestead so I can still visit. 💝🌺💝

PS - the perfume of the lilacs brought back so many good memories from growing up there. Have a good day.

I love using Canva to create my ads, posts and Etsy templates. It’s a great tool for making cards, editing photos or most anything you want to create. I use the paid version so I can save my templates, but check out the free version if you want - there’s a ton you can do with it!

Happy Friday!

Well, it's official, as of last night our daughter is totally moved home from college, at least until August 1st when she'll move to Canada to start her PhD. She plans on enjoying every minute of the remaining 9+ weeks of summer between now and then. That's what it's all about - balancing work and relaxation, or doing what you love. (I love sunsets, so there's a pic below from our ride out to Binghamton Wednesday night.)

Life can get busy and stressful, which is why I think it’s so important to make time for yourself and do something that simply brings you joy. Creative time has a way of calming the mind, lifting your spirit, and helping you through the hard seasons of life. Honestly, painting feels a little like meditation for me — relaxing, peaceful, and just good for the soul. (If only it burned calories as well, lol!)

Lately, I’ve also been wanting to keep learning and growing as an artist, so I recently took my very first watercolor class… and I absolutely loved it! Trying something new reminded me how exciting it is to be a beginner again. Ya know, that wow, I did it, moment you have when you look at something you created. My roses below aren't perfect, but I like them. However, I'll stick with acrylics - they're in my comfort zone!

If you’ve ever wanted to explore different mediums (or be like me and continue your own learning journey), I highly recommend checking out Create with Nicole - http://createwithnicole.com . She's an art teacher in Ballston Spa, and hosts her classes at one of the elementary schools.

And the best part? She’ll be teaching a watercolor class at my studio very soon, and I’m so excited about it! I know you’re going to love her as much as I did. Stay tuned for more details on that...

In the meantime, carpe diem on this beautiful Friday!
