🌐 Exciting News: We're Going Digital!
We are honored to announce that we have been invited to produce instructional content for DanceProfessor, where we will soon be offering our lessons online on a per-lesson basis.

This is currently a work in progress as we research the market for recorded versions of our unique steps and patterns. We want to be entirely clear: this will never replace the local, face-to-face work we do with all of you. Instead, it’s a wonderful opportunity to expand our reach and share our love of partner dance with an audience far beyond our regional borders.

You can preview our new digital home and follow our progress here:

Thank you all for your incredible energy, dedication, and support. Have a wonderful couple of weeks, and we will see you back on the hardwood on June 29th!

Ever feel like there’s a subtle static on the dance floor that has nothing to do with the music?

In our latest post for The Kinetic Connection, we dive into the concept of "Social Noise"—the hidden mental friction that happens when we separate a dance from its actual roots. To achieve a true "Quiet Brain" and a flawless connection with your partner, mechanical precision isn't enough. We have to be willing to look at the whole picture.

Are we just protecting a small "silo" of rules, or are we building bridges across the living history of Swing, S**g, and Lindy Hop?

Dive into the final piece of our Rhythm of Resilience series and let’s talk about what it means to be a curator of the dance:
👉

Throughout this series, we have explored the biology, the physics, and the psychology of the dance floor.

Wow. A massive thank you to everyone who stepped out for our Monday Rhythm and Soul dance nights over the last couple of weeks. The energy and positive response have been absolutely incredible, and we couldn’t be happier with how the community is coming together on the floor.

Denise and I are packing our bags for Hawaii, but the momentum doesn’t stop here! We are already looking forward to keeping the groove going as soon as we get back.

📅 Mark Your Calendars: Summer & Fall Lineup
Here is the schedule for our upcoming summer sessions:

- Monday, June 29th at 6:00 PM (Our first night back!)

- Monday, July 6th at 6:00 PM

Looking ahead to Fall: Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming announcements regarding our Fall class sessions! Those will be kicking off the week of September 28th in both Powhatan and Colonial Heights. Your continued support means the world to us as we grow the future of Underhill's Swing and S**g Dance Collective and the Southern Virginia Swing and S**g Dance Club.

Finding the Quiet Brain in the middle of a swingout.

In an increasingly noisy digital world, finding a true "Third Place" is rare. For us, the dance floor has always been that sanctuary.

There is a precise moment in a dance where the technical effort—the footwork, the lead, the connection—fades away and the "Flow State" takes over. This is the definition of Quiet Brain Mastery. It is a state of active meditation where the only thing that exists is the rhythm and the partner.

We don’t dance to perform. We dance to get quiet, to focus, and to reconnect. Join us this coming Monday, June 15th, at the Colonial Heights Optimist Building. Let’s practice presence together.

What’s one movement that makes you feel most 'in the flow'? Let us know in the comments.

Why your brain loves a steady rhythm.

We often think of dance as a physical act, but the true benefits start in the brain. When we execute the specific footwork of Carolina S**g or Philly Bop, we are engaging in "neuro-gymnastics."

Unlike repetitive linear exercises, dance requires constant, split-second adjustments. This forces the brain to build new neural pathways—a process known as neuroplasticity. By learning a new sequence, you aren't just memorizing steps; you are actively fortifying your cognitive resilience.

This Monday, June 15th, we’re back at the Colonial Heights Optimist Building. Come for the music, stay for the mental clarity. No spectacle, just the discipline of movement.

We often think of dance as a purely physical skill, but any seasoned partner will tell you that the most significant work happens in the mind.
