Last Chance for Friday Pickup of Hideaway Cafe 13 Year Merch - Today! - https://mailchi.mp/53a956c60b38/this-week-at-the-hideaway-cafe-15572736
Here is a link to order in our "final final" batch of 13 year tees. We will be accepting orders through Monday at 4pm if you wish to get in on this last run. https://www.clover.com/online-ordering/hideaway-cafe-3724-st-petersburg (just choose the style and size - crew or tank - all will be printed on black). We will add these to those collected in person on Friday and we will reach back out here and let everyone know a pickup time/day. We will likely open up again this Friday as we did last - that was fun. Thanks to all who came by to pickup and get one final pour from JK!
Hey folks. We’ll be open tonight at 5PM for those of you who ordered tee shirts for pick up. I’ll be slinging remaining beer/wine as well so come thirsty - all are welcome. I also have some audio cables, stands and other things that you can take for a simple donation of your choice into the box. Im also selling an Aria Pro bass with case, a pair of passive Peavey 15’ speakers and a couple of other things so come and check it out. Kitchen equipment may be on the chopping block so if anyone’s interested, definitely inquire - I’m not 100 % sure if we’re dumping it or not but happy to take some offers. We’ll also be taking orders for more shirts!
***UPDATE: THIS ORDER WILL CLOSE AT 8am 5/9 AND WILL LIKELY BE THE LAST OF IT'S KIND, SO LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW*** Wanted to gauge interest in a final batch order of Hideaway Cafe 13 Year Merch designed by the Ed Woltil (artist extraordinaire responsible for ALL of our years of wonderful designs). We ran out twice on Saturday and know that some of you expressed interest, if we were able to pull off one final order. If you would like to be part of this order, let's start here. If you wouldn't mind just commenting if you'd like to take part: 1) which style (tank or crew), 2) what size, and 3) how many. We think they'll just be black to keep things simple, but feel free to share your wishes on color too. We'll do some followup offline to work out the details 1:1. Thanks!
…which brings us to the artists that made this room.
Wow what a day. Almost too much to sift through so soon, but yesterday definitely put an explanation point on everything we know and love about this room. First thank you for the tremendous amount of love and support floating around the inter webs and for all those beautiful faces I saw yesterday. It was like a dream where people just pop in from out of nowhere…. surreal really. Beautiful to see. And I love reading all of your personal experiences and love for this place. Thank you.
Special thanks to our talent pool yesterday including; Not broken yet, Gypsy Wind, Devin Neel, Eddie and Boho Sideshow, Ben Rogers Band, Hattan, Jackson and Brennan Kelly, Rebekah Pulley (who has answered more calls for help than I can count), Rob Pastore, Gale Trippsmith (Blink and it’s Gone), Joey Interrante, Vinnie Seplesky, Stefan and Mercy McCoy, Kid Royal, Josh Nelms, Galbraith Ladies, John Holt III, Kaleigh Baker, Sean Fote, TC Carr and Kirk Adams for an epic day - thank you all for so many epic days. So darn special. To our 13 year tee shirt designer Ed Woltil (we missed you buddy) and to J Kolb and all the cool cats at Radio St Pete 96.7 FM for bringing us to you live… thank you!
There are so many artists on our list, it would really be impossible to thank them all over 13 years but know this… if you shared even one song or word on this stage you, indeed, left something here that helped make it what it is today and I thank you.
I WOULD like to take a moment to thank a few key players that helped build the Hideaway name. They became our weekly residencies. First Betty Fox (who used to jump behind the bar and do dishes) and TC Carr for building Wednesday nights into the Hideaway Blues night that later was passed on to Kid Royal (first with Ashley and Taylor, then with Third Richardson and Harry Ong) and the Josh Nelms Trio with Jake Winebrenner and Vinnie Seplesky. Then Kirk Adams on Tuesdays (taco Tuesdays - which was of course moved to Fridays) then Kaleigh Baker and Someday Honey on Mondays (think I tried meatball Monday). And most recently Eddie Rosicky and Boho Sideshow on Saturday afternoons (Gale and Joey too - and a few other fill ins including Stefan Scheuermann).
They all worked with me and were very patient just to try and get something going - both of us knowing they could’ve made more money just about anywhere. Keeping these nights free, gave you all the opportunity to donate directly to them on stage and between us both, we were able to make it work. These nights helped us sustain… helped us become something that allowed us the room to risk inviting more regional and national acts where you just didn’t know how many tickets might sell - just knew you loved the artist and the music and knew you had to try it. That was all thanks to these local artists.
And to all of you that just “wanted to play” for a special event or anniversary - Thank you for lending your talents.
Finally I want to thank a few more people that reached out to me during and after Covid to try and find ways to help.
Ronnie Dee (put it in the box) donated his time every last Thursday for a while. He brought the whole band and played for donations only and I might add, played his ass off. Selwyn Birchwood called and said “let’s do something on Tuesdays. I want to help”. We sold tickets for four or five shows and he donated it all to the cafe to help keep things moving. Half Glass Full - offered a couple donation only gigs. Greg Billings called and said the same “I want to help”. He put together a few huge sellout shows that he could have brought anywhere he wanted - 10x the size - but he chose the Hideaway. I know there has to be more.
These are the reasons why this room is so special. Artists caring like it was their very own. Hell, wasn’t it??
Just a few names on an extremely long list but, again, and to every artist, thank you for contributing to the cafe - a family of misfits just doing our best to share the one thing we all have in common.
I hope the next time you hear from me I’ll be sharing news about our new home. Thanks everyone!
Well here we are. The final day… is it really today??? How on earth could that be?? As I said yesterday, there are so many people to thank… but how? How could I thank them all?
I think I’ll start the day with the Hideaway Staff. I think we’ve had it as easy as it gets. I’ve bartended and worked in kitchens in my early days in Nashville and it can be a hostile place to work - especially in the kitchen. I didn’t really appreciate the ownership back then the same way I do now but I can recall how hard it was for them to maintain a good staff.
We’ve been so lucky to essentially have the same crew all along. And most of the folks that are no longer here stayed for years and moved on to further their careers. To all of them and to the current diehards including; (at the bar) Ariane Steele McQueen (greatest name ever), Julie Skukalek (both Ariane and Julie have listened to more crap and helped me through so much and for so long - forever indebted), Shawn Forrestal (hard exterior - gooey on the inside - would never think of excepting money for a ride home - many rides home), Emily Wyson (going on a year plus but would’ve easily been here for 10), Rachel Webb (rock star on the floor - the girl can cover some ground) and Kim Porter (thanks for filling in when needed kimi), Taylor Hastings (man you were so easy to work with - you still feel like the “now” crew) my old crew Amber Buerger and Michele Simpson (these two single handedly rocked some crazy Betty Nights both on their own). In the kitch; Kenny Folce (Without a doubt the rock star back of house, guy you leave it all in his hands, cleanest, hardest working guy I’ve ever seen in a kitchen), Nolin Howard (coolest cat that does it all - everything he does he does with a smile) Jackson and Brennan Kelly (who got their first paychecks ever from the Hideaway and both learned from the best - thanks Kenny), at the door; Joy David (is there anyone cooler), Christina Perez (always a last minute “yes”) and intern, Audrey Savage (who btw RAWKS!), on sound; Nick Lee, Jesse Daw (two guys with big big ears) and my utility player Nolin Howard who pretty much jumps in where ever he is needed including kitchen and bar. I definitely need to include three others that always felt like family and still are who have gone on to also further their careers. Phil Stevens, Savy Crowther and Johnny MacDonald - three Hideaway staples. Rebekah Pulley, Steve Connelly and Bryan Merril too put in many shifts on Sound. And to the cafe MVP, Sally Smith. I could dedicate a separate post to all that Sally does. Simply put… she does it all and always with a smile and always keeping it positive. Doctor by day, hideaway mvp by night. Thank you sally for so damn much.
To these folks and to many others (Gabby, Siobhan, Jayne Kelli, Carrie) simply put, there’s no Hideaway without you! Without your hard work night after night. To every “thank you” Nicole and I receive, we share it with you. You guys put in the sweat and the long hours and you’ve all made it a work place worth going to everyday. I’ve truly always loved our staff. I can say that! So thank you all for the hard work, the many many good times and without a doubt, thank you for the friendship! That… we get to keep. More thanks later.
Music stats at noon - come on down!
Deserie & Jim kick things off tonight at 7:30PM then the Kirk Adams Band plays their last Frideaway at 9PM with special guest, Matt Walker. Don’t miss this very special evening.
Snake Farm with Jake Winebrenner, Josh Nelms, Perry Murphy and Mike Richards tonight at 9PM. But first a set from the John Kelly Band at 8PM. Come on down!
Well here we are... the final week at 1756 Central Avenue. Hard to believe! But as they say "all good things...." and these last 13 years have certainly been good ones. We're still not sure where we'll land, but I'm not giving up on the search. I do know that music and good people will be involved, so keep your eyes open for info on our new home. For now, come and take in the last few shows on THIS stage and help us celebrate everything this little room has given us!

We are open Wednesday-Saturday (w/ special events likely to show up on any other given calendar day - case in point - every 2nd and 4th Tuesday the Kirk Adams Band!). Every Wednesday is Blues Night hosted by Kid Royal (1st), TC Carr (3rd) and Betty Fox (2nd & 4th). Every Thursday offers up our "Living Room Live" Writers' Night featuring local singer/songwriters and on occasion, some nationally touring artists passing through - hosted by Rebekah Pulley. Come sign the list and share your ORIGINAL songs or join the audience in taking in St Pete's finest. Fridays and Saturdays are dedicated to ticketed events. Be a part of history in the making as many of these events turn into live recordings and oftentimes, if you stick around, the evening will end with an intimate "guitar at the bar". Check website or our Facebook events tab for show times and ticket info. Ask about our production team and see what we have to offer in the way of audio/video recording of your next big project. Also ask us about renting our facility for your special music-centric event!
