Thrilled to be settling in for some dedicated inspiration collection and painting time at the Lorne Community Connect artist residency.
I’m thrilled to share the details of the upcoming exhibition ‘Lie of the land’ with opening May 24th. 6 of my large paintings will be included in the show.
Can’t wait to get on the road to be there for the opening and hope to see you there if you’re in the Barossa region.

Beautiful day in the studio today! My kind of mess. When I’m painting there’s usually an issue with finding a surface to put things down in a hurry - things get spread all over.
Some early marks on a big
Also a couple of inspiration images from walks. Autumn light is amazing 💕
👋 A quick introduction post for my lovely new followers and a few things I’ve been enjoying lately 💕
Something that sets me up for a good day—quiet time with a coffee and a novel. It’s another way to escape the busyness.
My degree was in literature and then I studied creative writing — a different art form but something I still value.
I’m currently loving ‘The premonition’ by Banana Yoshimoto {an older piece that has only just been published in English} and recently, ‘Moshi Moshi’. She brings you straight into the story delivers emotional intensity in a way that seeks up. I come away wanting to go to Japan, and with a real appreciation of cooking and living a life with food prep as a central element {which is the opposite of the truth for me!}. I also love Joyce Carol Oates and Elizabeth Strout.
I’ve recently got back into yoga - it ties in so well with creativity. I practice in the front room where I show my work – it’s interesting to see the works from new perspectives: laying on the floor or upside down!
My painting gradually has evolved from abstract to landscape over the last few years. I haven’t let go of the freedom and mindset of working with abstraction — the landscape gives me a feeling of structure and space to play with abstraction.
Tricky to describe but for me it’s the best of both worlds.
How about you? What are you reading at the moment? Do you have a favourite part of the day?

📷 camera shy quick snap from the open last weekend!! Not a big lover of being in photos 😆
I’d love to know what you think –
Do you like the idea of a monthly in-person open day on a weekday (by appointment) and/or a virtual open event?
I know some of you were keen to come to the open but couldn’t make that date or live outside of Melbourne so I’m thinking through some options.
For the virtual open studio event I could share videos via stories in a group for people who RSVP, so it keeps the feeling of an in-person tour and you can ask questions and view the videos at a time that suits.
What do you think?

I had this rare moment a couple of weeks ago where a vision flashed into my mind like a premonition — an image of what I the future might feel like for me and my work!
Some details were crystal clear though overall there was vagueness or only a glimpse or a feeling.
The things that were clear are still clear now as I recall: white blond hair over a fluffy {not fur} coat and big pastel coloured gem stone rings, with the stones cut to let light in and subtle ocean colours shine through. Some pink. Quite minimal.
The paintings held that beautiful gemstone, clear ocean coloured feeling that is dreamy enough to want to build a life around.
There was definitely life by the beach, yoga, a dog…. And mostly painting.
The work I’m making at the moment feels like it’s part way toward this feeling, though I can’t tell if it’s the painting inspiring the vision or it’s the other way around where the vision leads the painting. Either way . . .
Quite different to the current reality of busy inner city life, but …. I’ll invite you over for a swim!
This mini piece is ‘Full circle’
Acrylic on canvas, Framed in deep (5.5cm) Vic ash
33x33cm
New work happening—and a couple of exciting things lined up for the year.
I’ll be sharing news via the studio newsletter soon, DM if you’d like to be added 💕
Incase you missed the news shared in a recent reel: there are 2 new studio lookbooks!
It was a satisfying process rediscovering links between works over the last couple of years and seeing progression.
One book shows available works, with clickable links and close up details and a little of the inspiration behind the works.
The other one shows all the works from recent collections which I hope helps with context and scale of how works look in rooms.
Have a flick through via profile link or DM if you’d like a link sent to you.
It looks and feels like I’m not actually working in the early stages of new works — where there’s not a lot to show but there’s a lot of thinking, sketching, gathering etc going on.
And a lot of contemplating details of past works and studies in preparation for what will come next.
Swipe through to see some of the clues that are revealing a kind of path.
Happy last days of 2023 ✨🥂
A small piece in progress to return to, along with a collection of inspiration for the new year.

A new framed mini original from the latest collection.
When this spot caught my eye there was a crescent moon and the light in the late afternoon was so serene — sprinkling through the trees shading the dog park.

I was really interested in the connecting shapes and the way the branches move so beautifully around each other as the air moves.

Every now and then a painting comes along that becomes an all-time favourite of all the paintings so far! This one, I’m excited to share, has been one of those pieces that felt right and full of ease throughout the process of creating it. Such a good feeling, and one that I hope I can bring to the next paintings.
I hope you like it :)

‘Breathing space’
102 x 91.4cm
Acrylic on Italian linen
It’s now available online under ‘New paintings’ via profile link, or DM if you’d like more information.
The abstract details that show up in my work are my favourite parts and they represent the way I see and feel the character of a landscape.
The abstraction itself is not something I think about ahead of time or plan, it’s more like it’s an unnamed bit of me that shows through in paint form when I’m painting and not thinking.
Images show close up details of a large work almost ready to share.
Things have been pretty exciting and busy in the studio lately and I have a new large format piece ready to share!
This is a small detail and I’ll be sharing the full image with my newsletter readers tomorrow.
DM if you’d like to join and be first to see :)
Sometimes having pieces from previous collection in the studio while I’m making new work is really helpful. I’ve found myself re-visiting this one recently as I’m drawn to some of the warmer ruby orange tones.
It’s a piece from the Quilted collection, inspired by the beautiful shapes in the sand dunes of Point Lonsdale. Looking at a spot where the water wasn’t yet visible, the haziness of the salt, sand and wind blurring the horizon.
‘Patchwork covering’
81 x 81cm / 32 x 32 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Framed in Vic Ash.
This one can be found under ‘Available medium to large paintings’ via profile link - or you can check stories for a clickable link. Swipe through for close up details.
Lots going on in the studio - large canvases have arrived and I can wait to stretch out and take the ideas in the studies and go big with them!
📷 Some local inspiration and close up details of recent studies.
Inspiring details that caught my eye recently.
I talk about reflecting on your own points of inspiration and letting them lead you through the process of creating unique abstract paintings in the ‘Abstract painting for beginners’ online course.
It’s not always a direct path and the more you explore, the more interesting the possibilities for paintings become.
Find the link in bio if you’d like to learn more.
Yesterday’s studio session results: a study for a new large work. almost done.
I’m working on pieces of unstretched linen — the same beautiful quality Italian linen that I use for the large works.
Having them unstretched lets me play and experiment freely and if I’m happy with the outcome, they can easily be stretched and framed for the next collection.
I’m thinking 1 or 2 might be ready to share at the open studio on Sunday!
DM if you’d like an invite ✨
Save the date: Open Studio in Melbourne, Sunday week!
I can’t wait to share the 5 new works in-person, as well as the last of the small to medium pieces.
The 2 largest pieces feature a new approach to colour. I loved working with a combination of soft subdued hues — colours that are harmonious and close, like siblings can be — and moments of bright.
I was excited to see discover a quiet strength in the softness and a beautiful glow that appeared with the building of layers.
📷 Tricky to capture the subtleties in photos, but fun to notice the colours change and come to life as I walk by at different times in the day.
I’d love to see you there :)

DM to RSVP — I’ll send you all the info.
Covid finally caught up with me after all this time. I’ve been pretty lucky I think.
While I’m home for a while longer, these smaller works are available in in Fitzroy North ✨
Also, if you have any show recommendations, please share 😊
I’ve binged a couple of good ones - In Limbo and Savage River…
