XAVANADU

XAVANADU Welcome to Xavanadu, the first new expansion of public space at Oregon Country Fair since 1998! Through collaboration of many a witty mind, XAVANADU was born.

Xavanadu is the arts and movement area located between Dragon Plaza and Chela Mela. During the process of coming up with the permanent name to best describe the whimsy and fun this area offers, we were simply called, "The New Area". Xavanadu = Savannah (a wide open space) + Xanadu (a place of great beauty, wonder and contentment). Pronounced: Za-Van-a-Doo

This community page is made available in

The Oregon Country Fair celebrates an incredible mix of artists and performers! While Main Stage primarily hosts the bigger acts, there are many other performance stages—of all sizes and schedules—showcasing amazing talent as well.

Within XAVANADU, we have several stages, including the Dance Pavilion (a larger, interactive stage and dance space), the StewardShip (smaller, edutainment offerings), the Alcove Stage (KOCF 92.7), and the Oasis (BIPOC Infinity Space), to name a few—each offering unique experiences for every festival-goer.

We’re excited to learn this year’s lineup, but in the meantime, enjoy this throwback sampler of performances from past years!

This project offers an exciting opportunity for an artist to create site-specific work that is engaging, memorable and will become an icon for the City of Eugene while enlivening the space for the community and contributing to a sense of belonging in Eugene and beyond.

Applications close March 16. Learn more and apply: eugene-or.gov/4386/Art-in-Public-Places-Call-to-Artists

This project is funded by EUG’s Percent for Art mandate whereby a percentage (1%) of eligible airport construction and renovation funds are allocated for public art at EUG.

We are so excited and inspired by the Portland Winter Light Festival. So many local and regional artist that have been in Xavanadu regularly contribute to The PWLF. A free event and fun for all ages, it. has really blossomed into just one of the best things Portland has to offer in this realm, with probanbly too many installations to even see. See you there this weekend and/or next?

This corner is a tough corner to program, being pretty exposed to the sun and dust, but Construction Crew fully re-worked Windgate in a really cool manner with the checkerboard fence panels and actual trees for posts and beams! The amount of work they do annually will probably never be known by a single person, both here in Xavanadu but everywhere else onsite.
This location ended up being a perfect backdrop for Douglas Robertson's really creative paintings! So many folks contribute to small little niches.

Almost the last day of the calendar year, but we are looking forward to long summer days upcoming with you all! Here is one highlight of many from this past summer, installed by a local to Eugene group of artists, led by Arielle, Bennett and David! Like so many art installations, this one took until the very last minute before it was ready for everyone to see and was rather evocative for passersby. Here is Aurelian, warming itself in the morning sun. We encourage you all to consider creating new or bringing existing art or performance to the meadow, to the paths, or to the stages this summer. Find formal applications here. See yo in July!

Xavanadu and some of the site is likely underwater right now, with FB reports of lots barely flooding, or hosting a higher than summer water content, making it a perfect time to think about the refreshing cycle of the weather, the river, the land. Just a few moons more and we look like this. And guess what else? Tomorrow is one minute longer of sun, even if it is behind the clouds!
