Drama: Pilot Episode
It all started with the vision to tell a story.
Supernova Productions is co-founded by producer Seairra Nemecek and director, Jasmine Winter. As a new independent Montreal-based theatre company, its aim is to create spaces that explore and push back against the boundaries faced in our current technological climate through innovative modes of storytelling.
My name is Seairra. I am a student at McGill University and prospective dramaturgy scholar. When I'm not researching or working on side-projects, I play rugby both for and outside of the university. Unifying people through the communal and ephemeral experience that theatre and athletics provide is the most rewarding aspect of my work. My creative partner, Jasmine Winter, is a theatre, film, television actor working in Montreal. She is a graduate of Dawson College's Professional Theatre Program. When she isn't on stage or in front of the camera, she teaches multiple kids theatre classes in and around Montreal and reviews local theatre for Montreal Theatre Hub.
Jasmine and I met one another as part of Imago Theatre's Artista Mentorship Program for emerging female artists. Through the program, we were introduced to strong women working in all areas of Montreal's vibrant theatre scene. A common thread that later launched the idea for this project was that many of our mentors started their careers by just "going for it." Now, whether or not this "it" meant an opportunity or a specific project didn't really matter, but the repetition of this idea to just create work resonated with both Jasmine and myself. She approached me with a play entitled Animals: Two Plays by Karen Hines and later discovered Drama: Pilot Episode. We did not want to wait for the chance to see one of these stories produced, so we teamed up to make this vision come to life and have not turned back.
