Akbayan Youth condemns the murder of Kieth and Nolven Absalon in the hands of the New People's Army (NPA). We grieve with their families and communities over their lives taken early by this senseless violence.

Nolven is a union leader from SENTRO and Kieth is a student athelete from FEU. Nolven and Kieth were mercilessly shot in the head and back aside from suffering from the landmine blast, a crime which the NPA now admitted.

The NPA's internal disciplinary system cannot be trusted to carry out justice given their history of complicity with Duterte's War on Drugs, their kill list against other members of the left which included Akbayan leaders, and their killing and torture of people among their ranks. The perpetrators must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We also reject the opportunism and violence of the State in using their deaths in advancing their corrupt terror operations. No justice will be expected to come from the aid of NTF-ELCAC and law enforcement agencies whose actions have also wasted the lives of hundreds of workers and students. We demand justice and an end to the violence between the state and the New People's Army.
