international women’s day ☼ forever inspired by the ni-Vanuatu women I spent 2 years with during my peace corps service. I love the rituals behind these kastom mats, piled high here at a wedding. to me, they represent the incredible power of island women. they collect, dry, and prep the leaves to then spend long hours lovingly and meticulously weaving the mats. whenever they all came together, I was in awe of the collective wisdom that has been passed down through generations. I feel lucky to have witnessed and participated in both the beautiful traditions and all the daily goodness.

happy women’s day especially to my host mama Jenifer Mala (Rotahiku!) whose generous nature, sharp mind, and contagious laugh completely shaped my experience and has left a stamp on my soul ☼ peti mo obi - plis bae yufala serem samtin ia witim mama!
