Four sound design game changers that improved my skills fast and will for you too! 💙❤️

🧠 Get to the point when learning.
Instead of only watching tutorials on making specific sounds, prioritize learning from videos and articles that explain how each function of synthesizers and methods in great detail.
Benefit: Your troubleshooting will be off the CHAIN, and you’ll intuitively know how to create what you want.

🎹 Learn on multiple synthesizers.
Almost all synths have the same basic functions, however different routing chains, data processing, and type of synthesis not only make each synth unique, but sound different! Becoming versed in one form of synthesis (i.e. additive) will help you learn others (granular, etc.)
Benefit: You will seamlessly understand any new-to-you synth quickly, develop a universal method to SD, and understand how and why artifacts and coloring happens (and how to use them as features)

🎛 Start with basic shapes.
Sine, saw, triangle, and square. Never limit yourself, but know well the fundamentals! More intricate waveforms contain properties from most/all basic ones, and produce unique artifacts when manipulated (which you may love or hate)
Benefit: understanding how the basic shapes send and modulate signals will help you create or fix characteristics of complex waveforms.

🔈 Your instrument is the speaker, learn it.
Learning how the synth’s signal controls the speaker cone, and the limitations of the speaker, will make your sounds CRISPY and POWERFUL!
Benefit: you will know how to optimize your SD for clarity on any sound system
