"When I was preparing to marry, I knew I needed a woman who was truly kingdom-oriented."
I set my parameters clearly. I said, "If God tells me today to empty my bank account, I won't need a committee meeting. If God says, 'Leave Nigeria today and move to Mozambique or Zimbabwe,' I will pack up and move. Will she be willing to let go of everything at a moment's notice to follow God's voice?"
Secondly, I knew God called me to raise leaders, nobles, and spiritual voices to address a generation. I needed a woman with a large heart and the mental capacity to nurture a refined, God-fearing people.
Thirdly, because of the heavy spiritual warfare attached to the apostolic calling, I knew there would be seasons where I couldn't even pray for myself. I needed a woman with a deep capacity for prayer and intercession.
When I began dating, I had to test those core values!
Sometimes, I deliberately skipped a birthday call to see her reaction. Was it a deal-breaker, or did she hold a higher perspective? Sometimes I had to reschedule a meeting last-minute due to ministry demands.
She had every right to feel bad, but did she understand the kingdom priority? I wasn't being insensitive—I was checking alignment with the vision God gave me.
Now, checking value systems doesn't mean you suppress your humanity!
When we started dating, I found myself on the phone with her for over 100 hours in just two weeks! I would call at 8:00 PM and still be talking at midnight. I had to catch myself and laugh, "What is happening to you?"
And marriage requires intentional joy! You must create time for retreats, romance, and refreshment.
I take my wife out, open the car door for her, and call her the most beautiful woman in the world. On her birthday, I organized a surprise gathering for her with loved ones. I bring gifts home, make her laugh, and play the clown just to bring a smile to her face.
If you don't hear a direct voice from heaven showing you who to marry, look at your value system. Find a partner who aligns with those core spiritual values and possesses a teachable heart—and when you find them, nurture that relationship with love, laughter, and intentionality.
